The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 3

Cattybags - when I tried cutting down I started to drink spritzers. Firstly 3/4 wine 1/4 fizzy water, then 1/2 1/2, then 1/4 3/4, until eventually I was having 30ml of wine in a 200ml glass. It worked for me and got me down to 1/3 bottle of wine a night. If I could just stick to that I'd be happy, but once I have a day of drinking 'neat' wine I find I'm back onto it again!

Thanks fluffyb - do you take the recommended dosage or just one tab a day?

Gotta be quick, having an absolute nightmare in every way.

Got home last night and we've hit our Virgin credit limit (that sounded dodgy ) and so the phone, telly and internet had been cut off, we paid the bill but it didn't come back on again and as far as I know is still off. Very very !!!!!! off and got very very drunk, tried my hardest to hide it from OH but it was impossible, he was very upset and angry with me. I went to bed at 10pm after having a row with him and me very irritated with myself for being 'found out'.

Onwards and upwards I s'pose.

40SM, I'm not sure what I'm at with the total this month now. But thanks so much for the sterling job last month, lets hope I can do such a good job as you :eek:

Welcome to cattybags, I too am a newbie and have just completed my first month with a hefty 19 AFD's under my belt.. I think I had previously done 3 in the last 3 years, and I was also a bottle of red a night kind of girl...! No physical side effects for me.. sleep like a log and wake up bright eyed and bushy tailed.. I never wanted to stop drinking but hated the habit/addiction I had got into of needing a drink everynight. I love having AFD day's, I don't find it hard to stop/start.. i try to be AF sun to thurs so 5 off and 2 on...! but it don't always work and the difference is I don't beat myself up about it now, coz i can do it, and I am doing it.... thanks to all these super people on here.. I've also got over the replacing alcohol with sweet stuff, I now enjoy long evenings being productive, remembering what i watched on tv and sipping fruit juice or tea and I have an extra £80 in my pocket this month....:D

I can definately say it will be 1 AFD for me today, thanks Jo. I have my pineapple and lemon juice chilling in the fridge as we speak... that will go nice with the roast...!!! (in this weather...) we are having tonight...

Stopping rambling now.. going to do something productive.... yeah right.. off to check the rest of the forum...:rotfl:

I'm trying to be realistic because I'm on holiday for two weeks this month.

At long last the sun has come out in th NE of Scotland and it's hot. 26c at the last check and that is just waaaay too hot for me. I'm getting in a sweat just thinking about it.

I've got a busy couple of days coming up. It's also my eldest boys last day at his pre-school nursery on Friday. I just know that I'm going to be so emotional because they have all been so lovely to him. It's the end of an era

if possible I would like to join in for the July Alcohol free challenge
I lost a good friend last week at 56 yrs of age due to smoking and it has really caused me to evaluate my life in general
I have been a bottle of red most night with more at the weekend and was starting to get worried about the amount I was drinking . This is my second day so far .
My aim is to alcohol free during the week and stay within limits at weekends . I don't want to have to give up completely
On reading this I felt I was not on my own so many thanks to all

It's the same for me with my DD2's nursery, the staff are so lovely, all 3 of my kids have been there.....not worth having another baby for though
