I just won this on Ebay. It's more than I wanted to pay but they sell for so much in this area even in a "naked" state. I think I'll have to changethe wallpaper on the front eventually and maybe repaint as I don't like the true "slightly knocked" shabby chic look.

Well I think that is a bargain and ready painted.:T

Thats a great price, even if you do repaint.

Yes I know, this one went for even more and I would have just painted it.

    that is lovely hun!
  • I'm nearly finished my project of painting my daughter's drawers and I am really pleased with what I have achieved so far...

I have painted them with gloss paint and then decorated them little paper shapes that were cut out using stamps ( think that's what they are called)...

Do you think I can varnish straight over the paper or will I need to put a wash of watered down PVA glue over the top? I'm worried about the varnish damaging the paper - making the ink bleed or something...

Your thoughts on the above are greatly appreciated. My hubby could be home from Afghanistan tomorrow :j:j:j(maybe Tuesday/Wed/Thurs) and I would love to be finished so I can show him the final result!

    Thanks
    Jo xxx
  • mummyjo - i would say varnish but just really wanted to say :j woohoo for DH coming home :D

Thanks. I'm trying not to get too stressed about finishing on time in case I make a mess. He hasn't been away long this time (only 3 weeks) - I feel for the army guys that do 6 months out there but we all still miss him. Haven't told the kids yet incase he gets delayed. Their concept of time (age 5 and 3) isn't great!

I'll plod on with the varnish - although I am terribly nervous about it all.
  • okay... getting there! - thanks for all your help!
Please don't get sick of me just yet!

I've used a brush to apply the varnish and although it isn't properly dry yet you can see a lot of the brush marks and I don't think they will melt away IYFWIM. Just wondering if there is a techinique with this. I had a nice finish with the gloss roller before I applied the varnish and now it doesn't look quite as nice although it does look ok. Just trying to work out where I've gone wrong.

I've never painted with anything other than emulsion before.

Also I put the little paper cut outs on using watered down PVA glue and I didn't realise that in places it had left a tiny residue where it had leaked out from the edge of the shape. To avoid this would I have been better using something like spray mount?

Finally:T When I'm ready I would love to put up a photo like a lot of you do - I've tried it before but I'm not allowed to post attachments. If someone could explain it I would be grateful. Others have tried in the past but I didn't understand what they were going on about!:rotfl::rotfl:

    Thanks

Shirl that dresser is lovely. I really like those - are they Dutch style? but I wanted a flat top for stashing things on top!
Know what you mean about the crazy prices they are going for too, I think that's fab for already painted.

Mummy Jo, hooray for your hubby coming home, I can't imagine how hard that must be, if DH has a couple of shifts close together I feel like I am on the verge of a breakdown when he finally comes home and that's only 2 days!

I've been super busy packing and planning our holiday, we've got a vague region in mind and are just checking out some places when we get there - which sounds very laid back but it's even more difficult to "plan" as I have to investigate and prepare routes and excusions for every eventuality (am I a bit of a control freak perhaps?)

Happy SC ing everyone and I look forward to seeing your makeovers on my return xx
