In other news, I collected a cabinet off freecycle at the weekend. It was described as a 'glass and mirrored floral french style sideboard'. I was expecting loveliness along these lines

but it's more like this

    Picture3.png

I've painted the outside in Dimity, but there are brown plastic strips down the side which look pretty bleugh and I can't think of anything to do with them. Also, I was going to wallpaper the back but the shelves don't come out without taking the whole thing apart *sigh*

I'm wondering whether to just stick it back on freecycle, or whether to continue and see if I can make it nice. I've lost all enthusiasm with this one I'm afraid :(

Also, my Cath Kidston dollshouse didn't sell in the end so I'm giving up for now. If I watch CK furniture it always sells for a fortune, but when I try and sell something no-one's interested, typical!! :rotfl:

Bibbitybob...my honest opinion is that id put it back on freecycle if it was my choice. It sounds as if it wasnt what you were looking for really...and having the brown plastic strips too:eek:...i dont know how you could disguise them.
I love the nest of tables :D

Thanks for the lovely comments. I really appreciate them; it genuinely means a lot. It's given me lots of confidence completing the first project.

jcr16 I was really please with the wood finish too and equally pleasantly surprised! . I can really recommend sanding loads and loads, it's worth the effort.

Mely what did you think of the bunting? too much? / don't go?

I call my kind of thing vintage style. I like shopping in charity shops and buying second hand furniture and doing it up but dont really do the floral stuff. I am doing it throughout the house although might have to give my teenage son's room a miss!

Hi Tiff...i like the vintage style too and have quite a few vintage things that ive collected over the years. Im not big into florals either, although i have a gorgeous floral bedspread that i adore...and i really like the Cath Kidston wallpaper etc on this thread..so i think i may be on the change :rotfl:.

That piano is beautiful and the bunting is just right IMHO. I don't remember who mentioned Wysteria Lane but I want to say thanks I tested the water with a small order and was delighted with it, they have some beautiful stuff.
I have been asked to amend my post but have a look at their website direct for the £10 saving.
    Thanks again.
