Lolly I believe people use Cath Kidston paper napkins. You can get these quite cheaply from CK or Ebay. Tesco have some lovely shabby chic style paper napkins at the mo (floral and union jack styles). I've not tried this yet but will do at some point soon.

Thanks for this....I've been looking at the decopatch stuff today online and really fancy having a go. If I got some of the napkins would I still need the special glue or is there an alternative?
    Thanks

:j newmee just caught up & SOOOOOOO pleased you got the table ! :D I love Bibbity's table but I think I would be tempted to paint the pedestal but keep the table top plain wood - just sand it and then use Briwax in Medium Oak which I believe you can get in Homebase.

I'd also like to know the answer to this! I've got a wooden plaque sign off ebay and ive seen the Tesco napkins and would love to give this a go.

What glue should be used? do you just paste it all over the top??

Thanks Ellidee, mee too! I think I will just paint the pedestal and keep the top wood because as much as I love the painted look, I adore the look of natural wood too, so this would be the best of both. Also thanks for the tip as to what to use. I will add it to my list ;)

I take it for the base I will need a couple of coats of eggshell?

OK. Don't suppose any of you clever people have any ideas to throw in regarding my piano with matching stool. Antique, although not as old as Victorian (I was told by the tuner) I cannot bear to part with it and have lugged it to Wales and back then into my upstairs flat (which cost a fortune!)
It has to stay in the living room as it wouldn't fit anywhere else so needs to blend if I am to take this theme seriously. I currently have a chocolate brown and red theme which the dark wood blends well with however I won't paint the whole piano as I think that's overkill and not advisable. I wondered if I chic'd up the stool and use the top of the piano for lighter accessories I'd get away with it? I'm struggling to picture it though.
    Any suggestions welcomed :A x

yes, I like it :) Thanks. I can visualise that now. Also If i kept the lid up and the keys always exposed it'd help break the large expanse of dark wood!
    Thanks Ellidee

As usual Thank you - you are a fountain of SC knowledge!

Newmee - Yes eggshell for the table, although i beleive Oil based eggshell is better and more hard wearing. As opposed to Water based eggshell.

I saw some lovely union jack and floral work top savers and tins in Tesco - I'm going to pop back next week if i still want them :D (I change my mind like the weather so if i am undecided i wait a week and then if i still want them i will get them)

I love the thought of the antique piano with the shawl/crochet blanket on top i bet it will look lovely x

I'm a 'shabby choc' lurker these days, but I found this on one of the blogs I follow - thought it might be of interest to someone http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ - scroll down and take a look at Constance :)

I think that I need a Constance in my life. She's perfect.

I've just lost all my posting, darn & blast.
I'm ssssssssooooooooooo excited I'm hopefully getting a new dog today. I've needed another one for ages as 2 had to be put to sleep in 2009, my remaiming old boy has turned quite odd. Hopefully he'll love her when he meets her. Fingers crossed for me, I think that I may call her Florence if I don't like her name.

Newmee & I think Gingababe, well done on your wins.
You need to point out how much you're savong by buying stuff to shabby up, rather than how much you're spending.
I love pianos, can't play but would love one if I had the room, I always think that with their lids open they look as if they're smiling with their big shiny teeth-keys.
I like phot frames & candlesticks all nice & shiny grouped on top of a bright shawl. I love the piano stool.
Will post pics later if I buy Florence.
    Have a good day everyone.
