Afternoon shabby chic ladies!!!!!!!!!Tara747...not sure where you are but there is a small ck shop in Kildare Village outlet....have visited but bought nothing...which Avoca shop are you near??
Marie
Belfast. It is one of my favourite shops, although I can hardly bear to pay their prices!!! I love the food hall too.Tara, I believe that the seller makes those cake stands. I wanted a cake stand and had been belly aching at DH. I couldn't find an affordable one. Then I went to a charity shop and saw all of their plates and thought it would be a great idea to make your own. Just drill through the middle of your 3 plates with a tile cutting drill. So all I needed to find was where to get the cake stand fixtures from.
It took me a little while but I think that this was the site I saw? Not time to check now sorry, so I'll just link quickly >>>>>> http://www.chinapresentations.net/gbu0-catshow/cake-stand-fittings.html cheerio, Kaz.
Thanks for the link. I know she makes her own stands, which makes me even more sad as I'll never find another one with that exact combination of plates.
I was just telling my husband about the shabby chic look and how much I like it. His reply?... "Why's it called shaggy sheep?!" :rotfl:
Oh and talking of cake stands; I have a Royal Albert "Old Country Roses" cake stand and when it's dismantled the bottom plate is the same size as my matching dinner plates. Well one day I was dishing up dinner and accidently used the cake stand plate for one of the meals. The gravy ran through the hole in the middle and made a right old mess!!

i think it looks lovely already but thats just my opinion.i have the herb planter 3 pots and tray also 2 quite largish tins enamel in cream i treated myself from ebay and got a good reduction. the planter is for herbs and may put my pea shoots in the other 2 larger tins. i have quite a few items in enamel as my gran and i both like it she picks bits up for me dirt cheap at local car boots:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Hi everyone, loving this thread! I've been into shabby chic for about 8 years. I've recently 'shabbied' up some old furniture using an undercoat and some Farrow and Ball eggshell paint, however, I'm a bit worried about the finish. I thought I'd end up with something that I could clean with a damp cloth and not worry about ruining the paint, also, it looks like it could scratch quite easily. Is there some sort of wax or varnish I can use on top of the paint to protect it and make it easy to clean? What do you all use?

Hi Bibbitybob, can you tell me what top coat you use as the F+B is emulsion I think and will get scratched, do you varnish to seal the paint??Bibbitybob wrote: »Urgh, not liking the paint fumes. I bought a lovely little plate rack at the car boot this morning and have managed two undercoats and an eggshell coat already. Think I need an afternoon nap!Thriftkitten

I use oil eggshell, not emulsion.
jools02 - my dining table has been eggshelled for over 2 years now and my kitchen cabinets over a year. It wipes clean really well. The only thing that's scratched it is the metal stud on someone's jean back pocket, other than that I find it to be really hard wearing.
I've got this weekend's makeovers finished and a new item photographed, will put pictures up asap!0
