I have an 02 contract through car phone warehouse with 02, i pay the bills and my 15 year old daughter has the phone. Ive had a few excessive bill s in the past but shes pretty good now and i dont make a habit of checking the bills every month, but i did the other day and the bill were way over what they should be, so i checked them on line. Shes been connecting to the net via her phone, but the longest she has been on is 2 minutes 29 seconds and for this they charged be £5.71, there was even one time it shows she was connected for zero seconds and they charged 12p for that. Obviously something is amiss, i was wondering if anyone has had the same problems and is it easy enough to rectify? and what is the best number to ring to get a result. To give you an idea how excessive these charges are, on the march bill i was charged £34.65 for a total of 14 minuets 33 seconds browsing :eek:

It depends how much she is downloading, not how long she is online for as I am sure you are aware. Is it possible she was downloading a game/application of a large file size?

I don't see how you can claim you have been ripped off if you don't know what it is for yet.

I can claim ive been ripped off because it isnt possible to download anything in zero seconds yet they still charged. Every single time shes connected there has been an excessive charge. She told me she didnt download anything, she just connected.

Did she know that internet browsing was not part of her inclusive package?

You can indeed be charged for just connecting on some tariffs. Maybe it is time for you to both re-read your tariff and contract.

Why would she 'just connect' and not download anything? 'Download' meaning doing anything whatsoever online.

your missing my point. Im not disputing the fact that I will be charged for connecting to the net, im saying that the charges are excessive and I cant see how they can justify them. I was wanting input from anyone who has experienced this as well, I wasn't wanting to analyse what my daughter downloaded, whether we should read the tariff agreement etc etc.
So, has anyone had the same problems with 02?
  • The standard charge is something like £3.95 per MB, so that's not a lot of browsing before the charges rack up. And I've had no problems because I've got unlimited internet bolt-on.

My 'point' is that you cant possibly state that it is a rip off if they haven't ripped you off, and therefore you should check your contract. There is no harm in doing that, right?

To be quite honest if you can't even be bothered to read the contract then I don't see why people should want to help you. How can the charges be excessive if you don't even know what they are because you cant be bothered to check?

Instead of wanting help, you appear to want to talk to people who have had exactly the same happen to them no doubt so that you can club together and say it is a ripoff wihtout actually finding out why it has happened.

You haven't been ripped off you just didn't read your contract.

I had a contract O2 phone for DD when she was 12. She knew she was allowed a fixed amount of browsing on her contract, along with inclusive minutes and if she went over it came from her pocket money. She kept to her tarriff. As the adult I who took out the contract in my name for DD I made sure I knew what was inclusive.

She is now on T Mobile which doesn't allow internet browsing on her contract. She is 14 and is old enough to understand no browsing or she pays. She has gone over twice by about £1.12 and she's had to pay for it. The only other time she has gone over (by about £5) was when we were in Spain and we only used her phone abroad as it was cheaper than OH and mine contract.

Can you see a theme here? Make sure you know what's included as even going over your inclusive minutes is pricy.

Sorry you didn't get the answers you want.

    It's £3 per MB

This page is about 300 kB with all the images, though the Opera Mini browser compresses things a bit, if you use that.

Go for the internet add-on for £7.50
