It's also strange that I wrote "brand new" ... it wasn't brand new, although they claim it's in good working order. I don't know why I did that! LOL:beer:0 -
These are the latest 2 posts (within hours of each other) from the infamous '6 kids under 5 and neither of us work' family on our Freecycle group. They have certainly got the idea of 'Free' right but seem to misunderstand the 'cycle' bit:
Wanted urgently birthday wrapping paper
its my little girls 3rd birthday on monday and we have no wrapping
paper and dont get paid til tuesday/. i only need about 2 rools and im
really not fussed what it is as long as they get wrapped up.
By 'paid on Tuesday' they mean giro. Shocking that they bought enough gifts to need 2 ROLLS of wrapping paper but didn't buy any paper. There is a pound shop just opened in town where you can get a few rolls for a pound.
Wanted please - dining room chairs
please does anyone have any dining table chairs they no longer need and
also i hope i dont sound rude but possibly could drop them off for me
The day before they asked for Christmas decorations and also pots of paint and brushes ('enough to re-do the whole house please').
The day before that it was a mobile phone charger, christmas decorations for his mother and DVD burner.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. On my freecycle sites they do not allow you to ask for items unless you have offered. (I suppose you could always make stuff up!)
Also they ask people to consider FOP meaning they wait for so long before making a decision as to who get the item and not first come first served0 -
I have just offered a brand new item on my local site - it will be an ideal present for a child and would cost new around £15.00 i have had 2 requests within seconds neither has a please or thanks - just says i can collect within the hour, yes i really want it.
i replied to a wanted ad last week whereby someone was requesting something i had the item not being used they live around 10 miles from me however as i was working in the local town this morning i offered to take it with me, so they could pick up it would be less than 5 mins to have walked for them to me to collect the item they so desparetly wanted - i had to get up early especially to pack this item and load in my car - i text them to say just to check to see if you are still coming and guess what this was there reply "OH YES I WONT BE ABLE TO GET TO YOU BY THE TIME YOU STATED" SO DONT WORRY I WONT HAVE THE ITEM AFTER ALL"
I am livid you put yourself out to offer someone an item they want and this happens, I am becoming so much more p***ed off by the day by some individuals who really clearly take the p - and i am so near to just finishing with freecycle altogether.2010 - Goals
1. on the long road to hopefully adopting a child - Home Visit 3 Feb 2010
2. Planning to clear my credit card debt.
3. lose weight.

Ad just appeared now for Wanted
this is a big wanted but has any one got any nintendo ds games they no longer
play use or want if so i would be very greatfull for them for my 5 year old if
any one can help please get in touch
keeping my fingers crossed
Surely anyone with a ounce of sense if they have any ds games going spare are going to sell them on ebay or amazon - they fetch good money on either site !2010 - Goals

Agree with you. There are so many wants on our group where my first thought is 'If I had one of those I didn't want it would be on ebay!'
A 5-year-old with a games console? Whatever happened to Lego? Did my little brothers fine.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. We've had this wanted on our group:
Hi, I know this is a big ask, but if anyone has a Virgin Media V+ box
with remote control, they no longer require, I'd be very grateful.
Wouldn't we all?! I think Virgin have only had this out a year or two (they were behind Sky) so there is not likely one to be ready for landfill just yet!0 -
Another day, another classic offering from our group:
hello, with the credit crunch affecting us all, just wondering if
anyone has any nintendo wii games they no longer want. I will be more
than happy to take them off your hands.
thanks in advance.
I feel like replying saying 'With the credit crunch affecting us all why don't you sell your Wii?' Or 'With the credit crunch affecting us all I have decided to sell all my stuff on ebay rather than give it to scroungers'.
Notice a return of my old friend 'take them off your hands' - as if she's doing ME a favour by getting Wii games for nowt. I hardly think any are ready for landfill already (to quote the previous poster).I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are E7760/3970. I don't know if every Freecycle group has a Freecycle cafe but I know some do.
Freecycle cafe is the chat side of the site where you can ask for advice about things.
Also I know that you can give away coupons and tickets (such as the Harrods Grotto) on there.
Hope this is of use to people.0
