  • Agree that walking off and not taking the item with you (if it's unsuitable) is better than taking it and dumping it but if he needed a SCART socket then surely he could have asked before collecting?

It would have saved frugalpam from being inconvenienced waiting in for him and then having to contact another person to re-offer it.

I once offered a toddler's dressing gown, gave the colour, brand, size, stated that it had a picture of a rabbit on the front and a little hood. I got an e-mail asking for all sorts of pictures of it to see if it was 'suitable for our needs' from someone. In other words, they wanted to know if it was good enough to sell on.

I didn't even bother replying. If you need a dressing gown for a 2-year-old so desperately that you are looking on freecycle for another family's cast-off then the style can't be too important to you. I'm sure the 2-year-old isn't that much of a fashionista!

Good to see that action has been taken on our group this morning about the woman who has posted 8 identical wanted messages in the last 3 weeks for a double bed. Get the message, love. No one's going to give you one.

Agreed - but that's a matter of communication rather than anything else. It would have saved his own inconvenience, too.

But, maybe, if she had a double bed... :o

Well, I'm sorry you disagree, but my point was that he was very rude and dismissive when he discovered there was no scart, and walked off without another word. A polite 'thank you, but it's not really suitable' would have been fine. Quoting from my original post:-

The guy that came to collect it inspected it and told me it wouldn't do as it didn't have a SCART socket and then cleared off

    - Just another rude bad mannered freecycler :p
I'm sorry, I disagree with this.
I presume that when this person said he'd take your TV he had a purpose in mind for it. Maybe to play DVDs for the kids?
If it wasn't fit for his purpose, then what's the point in him taking it? He could have taken it and taken it straight to the tip. Or put it straight back on freecycle. Or tried to sell it. But what's the point in any of that?
What he did meant that the TV got used.

  • I am so annoyed! Somebody listed a brand-new washing machine on our Freecycle this morning. That happens maybe once a month or less often than that.

Hours later, my washing machine broke. I wrote a very, very polite email, but I'm sure I'm much too late to be the lucky recipient. :(

In my local freecycle someone advertised an ipod, I thought it was dodgy, but it said he has upgraded to an Ipod touch so I thought I would give it try. He was actually trying to advertise one of these referral sites. I have not got anything from freecycle in ages as everything goes so quickly, even if I am on freecycle when a message comes in, it has gone, or a wanted add appears about a minute later for the same item. Also people regularly do not collect when I give an item, even though I put 'only people who will collect on time'... Not worth the hassle, I give most things to the charity shops now.
