    Thanks Gromituk,

Maybe we'll see some of what you're talking about when we post our own stuff. I hope not.

i have had very similar experiences to most listed, be it as OFFERER and WANTER
the worst was one where i had been told by the 'OFFERER' that the item was mine, but do you think i could get a response as to when i could collect.....

5 weeks later I finally picked the item up,

generally most people who request somethings are curteous, cheerful and honest.
the ones that arent are the ones that actually monitor the list before the email is sent out..... which i think is the only disadvantage of the way freecycle works. if the email option from the group page was taken away, then it is down to when every one receives the group email
smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to.... ;)

Just had a response to my offer with a request to ring the person on his/her mobile. Now, is it me? I would have thought a "Please would you let me have your telephone number so that I may contact you to arrange collection" might be more appropriate.

My Freecyle experiences have been good so far and yes, I would ring someone on their mobile IF for any reason I was unable to be here for collection. Generally I think the onus is on the collectee (if there is such a word!) to arrange pick up.

Perhaps it is me after all.

No, I also get a little cross when I receive messages like these. I actually had someone ask me to ring them on thier mobile and specify the time I was to call
It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
  • That is a bit cheeky, I have given away loads of stuff and had loads, once I was told an item was mine and I emailed the woman everyday for her address and when I could collect but she didnt respond till a week later to say they had been taken, I was gutted,

other than that I have had great responses, I normally find you get more joy if you put on a WANTED add, I always seem to be to late when an item is offered.

You mean the collector - the collectee would be the item to be collected. :D

No, it's just inconsiderate Freecyclers. Just ignore the email if you have other people wanting the item.
Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.

    *** EDIT BY BOARD GUIDE***

Carolt, I removed the link you posted as it is the first post in this thread. It was getting a bit confusing for some people, hope you don't mind :)

Sometimes, freecycle isn't necessarily the best first port of call. For example, if you want your buggy to go to someone in need then contact your local surestart, health visitor or local NCT.

Alot of the mums at our school would not touch the health visitors or nct and sure start is not in all areas so I reckon its a bit of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other !!
