Just read this on the "3" website....
Three wrote:
From 1 May, there will be no data charges or top-up fees for either contract or pay-as-you-go customers who use Skype on 3’s network. Anyone with a 3 handset will be able to buy a 3 SIM with Skype enabled and talk as much as they want to other Skype users without ever having to pay another penny.

During the summer, 3 will expand its offer to make it possible for anyone with a compatible 3G phone to take advantage of free Skype calls, whether or not their phone is from 3. Anyone that wants to talk on a mobile for free will be able to use a Skype-enabled 3 SIM to make and receive totally free Skype-to-Skype calls and to use Skype’s instant message (IM) service.

Looks like i'll be dusting off my Skype account... :D

Don't really understand what it's all about yet, but hopefully can use it for free in Turkey when I go next month , hmmmm.
    I'll go read up again.

Just get a few cheap 3 PAYG mobile phones for the family and you'll never worry about paying a penny more. But it sort of begs the question, if everyone started doing this, how will 3 remain in business if they don't make any money out of it. Can you imagine the influx of teenagers/students moving over to 3? That's assuming you can get a good signal in the first place.

Three will probably get a cut of Skype rates if the user buys skype-out or something like that.

Either that or they think their will still be enough on pay-as-you-go and Monthly tariffs to off set the costs.

Also since people will have a three sim. They might just start using it for non-skype calls and texts. (Well that's what Three are hoping!)

Think you are correct, It does say " You can make free calls from your mobile here in the UK to millions of people using Skype in the UK and over 400 million worldwide using Skype on 3"
Now does that mean a 3 phone in the UK can call a 3 phone anywhere else in the world for free, or do they have to be on a 3 network abroad?

    Can I use Skype abroad?
Skype on 3 is unavailable when you are roaming abroad. If you want to use Skype when you're overseas we recommend using it on a computer - you can still use the same login details as you do on your 3 mobile.

    Simple terms for all: :D

Skype 2 Skype calls (ANYONE in the world with Skype) = free if you start the skype call on the 3 network.

Skype to Mobile / Landline = Only pay "Skype out" costs if on the 3 network.

Basically if you are on the "3" network in the UK you DON'T PAY data transfer costs for SKPYE calls. "Skype out" costs sill apply.

If you are NOT on a "3" network the Skype client from "3" will NOT connect. It's only programmed to accept "3" networks.

Me and my wife are both on 3 but we don't get free 3 to 3 calls. However, I've seen on the 3 website the 3 skype advert basically saying that all skype to skype calls are free. But is this actually true, surely the thing about skype is that it's done online, and so would you not be charged as a result of using the internet on 3 for the duration of your skype to skype calls.

I can't find any reference to thia on the 3 website

Can anyone shed any light on this.

This has to be some kind of joke? Have you actually looked at the Three website at the moment?

Yes I have, but as I'm dyslexic I find it hard to read through complicated websites and 3's is quite hard for me.
