AFAIK you would have to take your number over to PAYG wait 3 months then return as new customer to O2, alternatively find another network provider or take an upgrade deal
  • wrx,
    Get your PAC from O2.
Get an Orange PAYG sim (plenty available for free on this site).
Port your O2 number across- should take 5-7 days.
Use your O2 phone as normal up to the day of the port.
As soon as your number is on Orange, ask them for a PAC.
Get your new O2 contract and give the Orange PAC at the time of ordering.
5-7 days later, you'll be back on O2 on your old number with a new contract...
...and then the window licker said to me...

ring up O2 customer service. Their retention policy at the moment is fairly aggressive and they will probably give you what you want without the hassle of new contract and all that going through e2save. The only thing that i don't think they will match is any cashback offer from websites like quidco
If i have helped, use the thanks button!

I have read past posts regarding getting PACs for number transfers to PAYG sims. Once you have transferred it (your o2 number) to the PAYG sim, say orange (using knuckledragger's example), I think you have to activate it e.g. by topping it up or else you will be charged an extra month's line rental on your contract phone tariff (unless you have cancelled it, by giving 30 days notice).

If others on here have used a PAYG sim card to continue using your old number, have you had to activate it i.e. by topping up and also what (if any) problems did you have? Solutions? :)

Knuckledragger suggestion of going from orang PAYG to O2 contract will work. And when you register with Orange PAYG they give you £1 credit and it is not necessary to top up before you request a PAC.

Why you cant port for example a contract O2 number to another O2 contract number is bizarre. even Orange have the same policy but with Orange when your contract finishes, you can opt to take the number to Orange PAYG for free...soon as you get the PAYG sim with the £1 credit, you can apply for a new orange contract and take your PAYG number with you.

I'm afraid you have to wait 3 months before you can take your Orange PAYG number to contract with orange.

Slightly related - is it possible to port number to O2 midway through contract. I have a few weeks old contract with O2 via carphone warehouse and want to port my T-Mobile number to this new contract.

But to my amazement CPW customer services tell me it is not possinle to port a number once a contract has satarted, it MUST be done when you order the phone......is this right?!??!

Just noticed someone has already anserwed this on your other thread

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=166018

My advise would be to contact O2 that you want to port your t-mobile number over. It has nothing to do with CPW now. Tell O2 you have a PAC number from t-mobile. They can only say fine we can do this for you now, or they can say sorry its too late you should have contacted us in the first week etc.

if they say they will do it for you, then say you will call them back later as you dont have the PAC number with you at the moment and then call T-mobile and get PAC number etc.

Also on the CPW site when you buy a mobile contract it says:

"Want to keep your number? If you are buying a new phone on pay monthly with Vodafone or O2, and want to transfer your old number please call 0870 etc to speak to a member of our team as we are currently unable to process porting online.
    "
Now I recently bought a T-Mobile contract from CPW but even then i could not see the porting option, so i ended up buying it by phoning that number. And as for porting goes, all i got told was, once i get the handset i need to call T-mobile cust services and arrange for the number porting.

But the fact it specifically mentions O2 and Vodafone, perhaps these can only be done during sign-up. Not sure

I have just got an orange 1000Xnet contract phone (just to use at night and weekends) So could I and would it cost me anything to ask for the pac (and when should I do this as my current O2 contract ends 29th april) then ring orange and tel them I want to port my number (at what date would I do this if say I asked for my pac today) then when I take a new contract with e2save or whoever tell them I want to transfer my number from orange. Would all this work?

I will try redemptions but I want the O2 200mins 100 txts and can get it for free with a cr*p phone and cashback with I can flog on ebay for about £40 and get the quidco money back so will be in profit by about £70 for a 12 month contract. Don't think O2 redemptions will match that, even though I have been with them for over 10 years with a different number/contract every year.
