Tigster - they either send them to other hospitals or if an utter emergency they will have to deliver in non-delivery suites... I'm so glad that the JR has 12 delivery suites and another 3 midwife led ones on the top floor. Chances of it closing for admissions is unlikely as there is a whole building (7 floors) dedicated to womens health so loads of midwives...

That sounds like heaven to me right now! lol.
My last 3 children were born in the same hospital - as was i! and my babies have never shared a birthday with anyone there it is so quiet. Its one heck of a baby boom. But these ladies have been expecting for 9 months, plenty of time for the hospital to line up help surely?!

You must be really uncomfortable and upset, code-a-holic.

I know that in my mother's local health authority there's a protocol for people to be able to request a transfer to a private hospital if the NHS isn't taking care of you in a timely manner. Would you be up to a trip to the nearest private hospital? (Would the bumps in the road help speed the labour along, even?)

I've been talked in to a home birth as there wont be room, if things do speed up.

So would they still send out a midwife to you? If so then surely it would make more sense to have you in the hospital where the mw could attend to other women at the same time?!

Also, what on earth was going on local to you 40 or so weeks ago?! Was there something in the water?

A communtiy midwife is who i wopuld call if i knew things had sped up. But with so many women about to pop in the area, with one midwife on call covering a 20 mile radius area, they cant gurantee they will make it to me. Our doc surgery has 2 midwives that covers this area, think they take it in turns on duty. But last Wed. The one on duty was helping in hospital, so if anyone called in labour due a home birth - it was tough luck! Call an ambulance and they will help or if you had time take you to the next hospital. the community midwife said i couldnt have a home birth in the early days of this pregnancy as her house was a good 40 minute drive from me as with my history of labour times was not realistic. But its a risk we have to take now.

Squishy - I love your attitude! That's kinda how I feel...I know I'm overweight, but now it's more important that baby is healthy & I'll be finally well & truly motivated after the birth to finally lose the flab.
