Thanks again. Is it easy to rig up the wiring so it can be unplugged? Adding an amp and other stuff's beyond my budget atm really, and I don't think really worth it considering the age of the car etc. In halfords they also told me that the 6x9s would start to fizzle a bit at the louder end due to lack of power, as you said. I'm still rather unsure. Would I be ok with 6x9s and just the head unit? And how loud is loud exactly? I like the music loud but not stupidly loud. :D

if you dont mind it not being stupidly loud then you should be fine, but expect your head unit to heat up more than usual.
the wiring is easy, its only 2 wires to each speaker, you could be fancy and make up nice little multi plugs for each speaker,or just be like me and disconnect them using the spades if need be.

To give you some idea, I usually have the music on about 18, 19 tops out of I think a max volume of 35. This seems pretty loud to me going slowly round the village, but seems less so on the motorway with road noise. Anything much above about 20 is too loud and distracts me. On that basis will I be ok? Does that count as loud or what? Sorry, this question probably sounds utterly ridiculous. :D
    And also what are spades?!

And I take it the cheaper 'Mutant X' 'zero' or 'urban sound' type cheaper ones on ebay aren't really worth looking at?

im a bit biased to be honest, ive had my jbl's for 8 years and still sound great, ive used them in a capri, 2 different vans and now in my focus, sound great in all of them, where as i had pioneers before these, they sounded good in 1 van but terrible in the capri,i ended up giving them away. safe bet will be the jbl's,ive never heard anyone complain about them for quality for the money.

i wouldnt bother with them, for the sake of a few quid more get a half decent proven brand.

    Hi

I'd stay clear of budget speakers that cost about £35 per pair as they wont last very long as Ive learnt myself by doing the same thing

If you going for door speakers for the front go for a decent name brand like JBL as mentioned or infinity etc, They will cost £20 more or so than cheap ones but you will get a better quality sound and a more durable speaker, shop around online but a pair of decent front speakers shouldnt cost more than £55

you could buy a two channel amp from your local classifieds for about £25 or even one off ebay second hand and a pair of tweeter dont cost the earth either

Each to their own but im not a big fan of 6x9 speakers on the parcel shelf too be honest. i prefer upgraded door speakers or a small sub in the boot which again you can buy second hand

Thanks again for your replies! I'm quite keen on the JBLs now. The sound was very clear on the GTO937s I heard in halfords, and I've seen them on ebay about £30. Seems pretty good to me. And another thing, don't think my head unit has preout so to get an amp would need a new head. It all starts getting a bit expensive at this point. I share the car with my mother so I don't think she'd appreciate subs and amps etc, plus we need the boot space.
    Thanks.
