sounds like a case of interferring "i'm so great and brilliant i need to disagree with at least one thing another solicitor says" to me.

When i got divorced i still had a relatively okay relationship with my ex, we saw each other fairly often and communicated well. We were trying to keep costs down by talking to each other where possible. His solicitor was always coming up with new more sneaky ways to undermine my solicitor and me. My ex had to keep asking him to stop looking for ways to screw me and just get it done - it was a joke. I was trying to stand my ground and do things right (morally) but it was getting more and more expensive to do so. At one point his solicitor wanted me to sign something to say i was solvent when my ex already told him that i wasn't, and when i refused he said i was picking hairs! I owed more in debt than i had in assets - I'm not going to lie!

I hate solicitors, i really do. I need to just find one nice one that I can use for everything from now on, and it sounds to me here OP that your boyfriend needs to do the same thing! His solicitor sounds like a right sod.

Stick with your solicitor's advice. And be nice to your fella.

I would guess that your bf didn't ask. I suspect that it was suggested to him, or simply put to your solicitor without even discussing it with your bf if his solicitor felt that he was doing what was best for his client.

When it's all official-talk it can feel quite scary, but you don't have to do anything you don't want.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

If you're looking for someone to make this decision for you, then you've come to the wrong place.

Toss a coin and if you're pleased with the choice then it's the right one, if you're not then take the other.

What's the worst that could happen?

Solicitors act under instructions. His solicitor did not just take it upon himself to make this request, he will have been instructed to do so by his client.

Quite how this makes him a "right sod" is baffling.
