do you earn? If so then no problem! If you get salary paid into that account with A&L then they should give you one! Do you have an o/d with them? Try applying online or something and see - but to get the card it is best to do it in branch cos the staff will appeal there and then for you if it gets referred/declined.
p.s. £14k is not a lot of debt in the grand scheme of things.... £50k is however2010 - year of the troll

true but i want to try make a fresh start when i apply for a mortgage tho. I did try and apply for a credit card with A+L when i got my account but declined me due to already having a account with MBNA who issues there cards.
Is it worth closing some of my credit card accounts. Vanquis which balance ZERO / MBNA balance cleared next week / capone balance £ 1250 / Flybe £4k0 -

MBNA have niothing to do with A&L now, its santander cards that issue them. Also, you can have several MBNA cards so must have been within 6mths of your MBNA application for them to use that excuse mate?
I'd deffo get rid of all high risk cards such as Vanquis/Cap 1 and keep MBNA and Flybe but move all debt (if you can) to the MBNA or something by asking if they will give a promotional rate.... failing that SBT into your bank and pay off the flybe card etc.....
Don't apply until you get default removed but remember your own bank is always the best to apply to first as they can see your actual behaviour and do not just work on a credit score. This usually helps you, believe it or not.
I understand what you mean about fresh start so try and get rid of the high apr cards and transfer balances to one card, then get the zero just to improve your score! Use it for things you'd usually pay cash for such as a tank of fuel or a weekly shop then go home and transfer the money via internet banking! Its easy to do but shows you can handle credit so if you ever need a loan or something your own bank are likely to say yes over another lender that knows nothing about you.
I am not suggesting you use A&L for a loan or mortgage but simply explaining that your own bank should always be the first-port-of-call.2010 - year of the troll

thank you very much.
I am going to close my vanquis 2mo. Going to leave the MBNA for now but make a small payment but going to pay a chunk off the capone card due to being high APR then once thats clear attack the flybe card and go from there.
I do have a OD with A+L but at the moment i keep running into it so u think best to stay above the OD for say the next 6 months to show a improvement?0 -

Mate it is fine to use an o/d if its authorised and you never exceed it. That is their purpose, albeit a bank likes making money from you they also like to see that you're not living in the o/d so if you can clear it and stay out of it then this will help you immensely. Deffo get rid of high apr cards and then sort out moving the other cards to the zero as a BT when you apply in a few weeks lol. So don't go overdrawn until you can apply for the zero card.
Then just BT the other balances to it (assuming they accept you with a decent limit which they should) and you'll be saving the interest payments meaning you pay more off your debt each month as they are on a 0% deal. then when you pay them off you close them all the while building an amazing relationship with A&L.2010 - year of the troll

This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0
