Amazing thread, perhaps you can give me some advice. I have a graduate account with Natwest, i have one default (settled from July 07) and applied for a Natwest CC in April, i was declined and applied for a Cap 1 card which i got accepted for with a £100 limit.

My question is if i want to improve my credit rating, should i look to get more credit building cards e.g.: vanquis, barclaycard initial etc and some store cards, or should i stick with my cap 1 card, i have had the cap 1 card for about 2 months, should i wait a while before applying for any more.

Also i am currently in my O/D on my natwest account but will be way out of this come payday does it make a difference if you apply whilst you are in your OD or should you wait until your account is in credit

Thanks in advance, once again top thread :)

Regards to applying for credit, you'll struggle big-time with a default. Settled or not, its the same.

You'll have 6yrs from default date before you know for sure you're credit problems are over.

Regards to questions, being overdrawn has no impact on a card you apply for, however it would always be advised to apply where you bank first off and see what they say, as they have history on you.

Thanks NID, that summary thread is brilliant, i know that default is not doing me any favours, i am currently contesting it so fingers crossed. As for trying to gain credit it is purely almost damage limitation, i know getting sub-prime cards and store cards are my best bet (if any) what i was wondering is how many should i try and get, is there a maximum i should apply for or which ones are the best at building credit? I dont need a CC and pay the balance off in full, its purely an exercise in increasing my credit rating.

    Hiya

Cheers - like it when people like the threads I string together lol

In there, there will be a link to past credit problems and this will show the best lenders to try. Personally, if you want to get the default taken off then give us a yell over here and we'll sort that for you too! then go for some mainstream cards..... thats my advice!

Have a look here - post your situation and i'll sort you a nifty letter to send to the OC demanding removal (if it can be argued of course!):

p.s did you not appeal the natwest CC decision? As a customer, you should be appealing.

Cancelled my Experian membership. Keeping Equifax - I like the fact they e-mail you instantly when a search has been added/deleted, a change in status and the CIFAS flags too.
