A bit off topic, but how closely do T's track their stock.

I bought an iPad in May but it's faulty. I don't want a reconditioned unit from Apple as I've had too many faulty reconditioned iPhones from them. T's are refusing to exchange or refund because I'm out with their 28 days returns policy. My sister bought the same iPad from the same store less than 28 days ago. Could I take my iPad back and use her receipt or will Tesco pick up on the fact that it's not the same iPad that the receipt is for. I can't remember if T's scanned any other barcode on the box other than the price barcode. I just don't want to end up with a red face.

I'd take it back, the worst that could happen is a beamer. I'd have it at CS the noo wae an excuse ready if they click
    Shop one - A vs T
    Shop two - A vs W
    And then repeat :j:j:j
    & now add - A vs S
What the heck A vs the world :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Tesco should accept your return if the item is faulty... I got the following from their website:

    'Electrical

    Electrical Helpline 0845 456 6767, Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm.
If you have any problem setting up or using your electrical product, please call the Electrical Helpline for help and advice.
Tesco guarantees all its electrical products for one year. If your product develops a fault please call our helpline. If we cannot immediately resolve the issue over the phone, we will arrange a prompt repair. If a repair is not possible, a replacement or refund will be offered. Small domestic appliances or DIY products may be returned without calling the helpline first.'

This is for tesco direct but I can't see why they'd have a different policy for their stores...

I'm pretty sure the store must give you some warranty on the product and this needs to be more than 28 days but I'm not sure. If the above doesn't work, I'd suggest calling consumer direct on 0845 040506 for impartial advice (I'd say it's free and impartial advice but you have to pay for the phone call so not really free - I'm yet to find a local number for them!).

    Good luck!

My sister bought her iPad on the 10th/11th of last month so I don't have long to do the return, only I can't get to mums to get the receipt until Sunday/Monday. I don't know what excuse I would give though if they did click. I've just called a Tesco Extra in England and said "I bought an iPad 2 from you but I need to return it as it's within 28 days but I can't for the life of me find the receipt, are you able to track it through any of the barcodes on the box?" The reply I got was "We can't do anything like that, if you paid by card then get a copy of your statement and it will be ok."

Called them but after hours on the phone the most they would do was offer a repair but when I pushed them a repair turned out to be a reconditioned unit from Apple, which I don't want!

I'm pretty certain you have a years guarantee on all electrical items
I had a recent falling out over a naff phone that wasn't working properly, had several heated conversations in store and to CS on the tel.
Problem with my item was I had a DTD on if when I bought if so they would only exchange/refund to the lower price minus the overcharge
Without this issue there wouldn't have been a problem at all (was over 28days)

2 items some may want to look out for are:

Tesco bungee cords, 4 pack. Code ends with 11811. Were £1, now 12p, and RTC.

White label SEL 49p for School Bars (5 pack of apple/raspberry/pear) with code ending 11694. However, newer packaging of same item on the shelf next to it, is currently £1.49

Yeah but when I don't know my rights fully I can't really do anything. The main problem seems to be that if I return my iPad then it's a loss against the store. To return it to the store properly Tech Support have to issue a returns code and they aren't budging from the "only thing we can do is a repair" line. :(

I contacted CAB but they were unwilling to help me. What are they there for then? They suggested I contact Consumer Direct, which I may do just to find out what my rights are but I think the simpler option is just to use my sisters receipt. Thing is, I gave them two options, swap my unit for a new one or refund me the £400 I paid for it and then I would re-spend that £400 plus a further £250 on top of that for the top of the range model, but no, they weren't interested. :(
  • Happy chappy don't know if it helps but my OH took a mobile back a few months ago that he'd had for 3 months and it wouldnt hold the charge. He had the receipt and their was no quibble, he was just given another one. They didnt even get the mobile out of the box, just filled in a returns form.
    Beware!!!! Glitching is addictive:rotfl:
  • Warranty , guarantee,,, it matters not a jot.

As long as you have proof of purchase (receipt, credit card bill or the like) then the store MUST accept the product back within the first 6 months and it is up to them to prove that the goods were not faulty when sold.

They do not have to give the money back they can exchange the product or have it repaired.

Most of the time they will refund or replace it though as it is simpler.
