OK - I have a list of things to do and I need to have my butt kicked into doing them!

    1) Old mobile phone - factory reset and send away for cashback / recycling.
    2) Farmers market tomorrow morning - buy eggs and try to resist buyng anything else
    3) Take car to have four, yes, FOUR new tyres fitted. Tyres are booked and should be in tomorrow, and I did manage to haggle the price down twice, first time by confidently asking what discount they would give if I bought four, and second by saying I like nice round numbers so would they knock the odd £6.37 off please....! In fairness too, I have got 38k miles out of the original set of tyres on the car, so that's fairly reasonable.
    4) Virgin Media chaps are coming tomorrow morning to fit our cable TV, broadband etc. Mr EH will stay in to do that whilst I go and do the other bits.
    5) Keep scouring the car ads to try to find something for MrEH - the Citroen has been sold. :-(
    6) Try to get flylady'ing back on track.
    7) Go to the market to get the tools and bits and pieces we need ready for the beer festival.
    8) Juggle money around to deal with the truly terrifying credit card bill that arrived yesterday - the car insuranc excess which I hoped would go onto next months statement just sneaked under the wire into this one, along with the Virgin Media installation payment, next years speedway GP tickets, and a few other things.
    9) Email the company that supplies our veg box to change the dates for the next month.

Yep you'll be busy! Love the bit about knocking the 6.37 off the tyres, I often have OCD urges to do stuff like that but I've resisted it so far! You sound super-organised as usual!

Cheers Jo - not sure about the "as usual" bit - still seems a bit wierd that anyone would think of me as in any way organised! :D

    1) [STRIKE]Old mobile phone - factory reset and send away for cashback / recycling.[/STRIKE]In envelope ready to post.
    2) [STRIKE]Farmers market tomorrow morning - buy eggs and try to resist buyng anything else[/STRIKE] Came back with a bagfull as usual but at least the egg stall had the "mis-shape" eggs so I got 2 dozen for £2.40 - free range of course!
    3) [STRIKE]Take car to have four, yes, FOUR new tyres fitted.[/STRIKE] On the credit card so won't have to worry about that until late August
    4) [STRIKE]Virgin Media chaps are coming tomorrow morning to fit our cable TV, broadband etc.[/STRIKE] Somewhere along the line the wireless router got left off the chaps job card so they have to send that too us. I'm running of an ethernet cable at the moment - I keep getting myself tangled up!
    5) [STRIKE]Keep scouring the car ads to try to find something for MrEH[/STRIKE] Still not a lot out there although I have managed to persuade him that we'll look at the 1.2 petrol as well as the diesels.
    6) Try to get flylady'ing back on track. Ahem. :o
    7) [STRIKE]Go to the market to get the tools and bits and pieces we need ready for the beer festival.[/STRIKE]
    8) [STRIKE]Juggle money around to deal with the truly terrifying credit card bill that arrived yesterday [/STRIKE] Juggling semi-done. I need MrEH to transfer his share over from his own account - he puts his expenses on the CC and then pays the money back across. The normal savings money will have to get scrapped this month as well - but I expected that at some stage anyhow with the insurance excess needing paid.
    9) [STRIKE]Email the company that supplies our veg box to change the dates for the next month.[/STRIKE] Done

That's the list pretty much dealt with anyway, which is good.

Virgin Media's V+ box seems good so far - although with me using redcordings so much on Sky Sports to record the speedway stuff I can see the poor relationship between Sky & Virgin becoming a bit tiresome. The speedway World Cup from Poland should have been last night, but was rained off until today. It should then have been on at 10am this morning, only Sky got their timings in a twist last night and until sometime in the night the Sky planner had it as 11am......meaning that so did Birgin. However, Sky corrected things first thing this morning but apparently failed to tell Virgin, and then failed to tell virgin AGAIN when things rang over, hence I suspect I have somewhere about a four heat gap in the middle of the meeting. Thankfully I realised and was able to get it recording again before the final few races.

Signature updated again - and the interest has been added to my ISA so that gave me a nice £77 boost too. Oh, and the £10 saved from the leccy DD has now been added to the mortgage OP meaning another 2 months knocked off the MF date. :j

  • Ahem - I've done it again haven't I - abandoned my thread again! :o Sorry chaps! Still, on the bright side I do have buckets of stuff to tell you about since I last posted!

The main bit of news is that the savings have taken a massive hit as we finally found MrEH a car. We stuck with the citroen idea in the end as the amount of headroom for him in a C3 is far better than in a Clio. We finally found an 03 plate C3 for him - quite high mileage at 115k but always been well looked after, dealer serviced etc (it can kiss goodbye to THAT idea from here on in!) and I managed to talk it down from £2500 to £2300. It does have a minor problem with starting - it's slow and takes two attempts - but the mechanic who looks after our trucks at work has taken a look and says it's nothing major so that's the main thing. Once it has started it runs like an absolute dream so all in all we're pretty happy.

What else then - well we bought a tent! We've been musing on the idea for a while - got fed up with wanting to go to places for weekends but not really being able to afford it, so we invested £50 in a little three berth dome tent. So far it's had three outings - 2 one nighters, one down on the South coast and the other up on the north Norfolk coast, and a two-nighter also up in Norfolk. Might try and squeeze in at least one more trip before it gets REALLY cold. I now wish I'd not refused to camp for so long as it's such good fun! :rotfl:

On a not-so-good front the major works being done to our building here at home have now started so we are scaffolded front and back which is vile - I feel like I'm living in a metal cage. Apparently they are bang on target to finish on time so another 12 weeks to go before it's all down. Then the fights over the invoice will start no doubt! It looks like our share should come in in the region of £6800 - not ideal but not the most expensive. As we have a feeling that there is some of that which we shouldn't be expected to pay towards that might change yet.

So - the plan now.....MrEH now having a car means that we will save a good chunk each month off his travel. My idea is to work out the depreciation we incur on a monthly basis on both cars, and start to put that amount aside into a separate savings account each month so when things like insurance, servicing become due the money will be there - got to get that account set up and the final figures done. Any balance over the top will then get transferred as a boost to the regular savings. Both cars are now insured together on one policy so that was another lump of money which had to be found!

Looking forward to catch up with what everyone else has been up to - hope you're all well and happy!

you've only abandoned us if you never come back! sounds like you've been in my neck of the woods whilst we've abandoned it for a holiday in Yorkshire.
what are you having done at home? we're desperate to get our porch done, but one flat owner won't do it. The rain comes through i'm expecting it to fall down at any stage and it's so frustrating cos 3 of us have the funds ready but the one who doesn't live in his and rents it out (and who is a property developer) just won't do it.
