I think you and your other half need to square this and then get round to the other driver and reasonably ask why he went this route without your authority after accepting the damage was minimal. From what you say there was no exchange of details, you went to find him so your consience should be clear. Find out the story and decide what to do from there.
I would think a contribution to the cost of the repair would be as generous as I'd like to be in your circumstances
Of course you can ignore any correspondence as the matter can't be proven. I'm ashamed to say that thats exactly what I would do in these circumstances as I would take offence that someone had said " it's fine, dont worry", then had the gall to said me a big repair bill without the choice of going insurance or otherwise:rolleyes::rolleyes:.
You however seem a little more consiencious than I, but don't get hadover;););)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Exactly my point, There is no need to take the whole front off just to paint the edge of a wheel arch, if you look at the pic of the car it would be like taking the door off to spray the wing.
yeah anybody shop worth their salt can paint it as it isSealed pot challenger # 10

I agree. About £2.99 for the T-cut and an old rag should cover itSo the correct advise is bump someones car and then deny it, hope I dont park next to you
That's clearly not what was said, don't be so silly.0 -
So the correct advise is bump someones car and then deny it, hope I dont park next to you
I've just paid a work colleague £200+ after bumping her car, no witnesses, no way of her knowing who it was had i just driven off; so i'm probably quite a good person to park next to.
As you know this is completly different, guy told him not to worry, then got an unauthorised repair done hat he expects the OP to pay for, RIDICULOUS...Just like you are for jumping to conclusions about someone you have never met!
T*T!0 -
The OP's account of events and the 'victims' behaviour regarding the 'unauthorised' repair lead me to agree with the posts suggesting you now do nothing, e.g. #18.
A scuff as you describe could easily be polished out with a little effort and minimal cost. Certainly nothing near $350. (No pound key.)
You've tried to do the right thing and as is so often the case, no good deed goes unpunished.0 -
Or perhaps he has hit someone/something requiring bodywork looking at and thinks you can pay for it.
A couple of months, can you believe someone would wait that long?
Bit of a chancer I think.
Can he prove that the repair was on the "damage " you caused?
I would not even give him the time of day, let alone £350
and no, I am not advocating just hitting a car and ignore responsibility0 -
£350 is extremely expensive for a scuff of that magnitude. My opinion would be that the owner is within his rights to demand payment, but he could have been a little more forthwith about it.0

The time limit for claiming compensation for damage done to property is 6 years.0

I may not be an expert but surely this has been handled inappropriately.
If you have an accident related damage you should sort it through your insurer or at least have the courtesy to ask the 3rd party if he wishes to pursue any other means of redress.
To simply post an invoice is rubbish. If it were me, I would assume he was trying it on.
I appreciate that a simple scratch may look worse in the eyes of a partner/colleague but c'mon, this is suspiciously bad form. If after the event, he had a change of heart about letting things slide, the OP should have been informed that he intended to have it repaired and seek compensation.
My advice, ring the guy and ask what this is all about OR wait for further correspondence. You can't just send money in the post for any old invoice dropped through your letter box.
What if it's just a mate who heard of the incident and is trying to make a very large fast buck.......Tough times never last longer than tough people.0 -
I'm still digesting all your advice on here - which is much appreciated. I've given myself til monday to think about0
