  • Thanks Quentin - he will know we have a dog because it will certainly have growled at him when he posted it!!

I'm absolutely not trying to get out of paying it. I feel rather foolish that it happened in the first place, the rover is like some sort of majestic galleon - you need a telescope to see the ends of it!

from some of the comments it looks like it might have been necessary to take it apart to correct the colour properly.

I'll have to fess up to my partner and maybe he'll call the bodyshop to get to the bottom of it.

    thanks again
  • Either settle out of the insurers or pass the invoice to your insurers to deal with.

You hit his car. You can either keep your insurance etc intact and pay up or instruct your insurers to deal.

"remove and refit items as required
Prepare and respray N/S/F bumper and N/S/F wing
    paint and materials as required"

I'm not sure why they had to take it apart, since I'd run my fingers over the mark and am certain there was no indentation.

    I can't see any bumper myself ????

I take it the scuff was on the edge of the wheel arch ?

    Am I missing something here?

Surely both insurers would require an estimate, before they decide between them about liability and THEN authorise the repairs to go ahead? (and isn't this process in place to ensure that extra or excessive work isn't invoiced to the insurance company?)

If the insurers require proof of damage, a) it's now been 'repaired' and b) for all they know the other driver had a mate at the garage and the invoice may have included a bit extra to be split with him and the other driver (if indeed it was resprayed and not T-cutted out!)

Could it be that the insurers won't pay out on this if you choose to go down that route?

Surprised no one has given you the correct advice yet.
This guy is at it, if he had given you a reasonable bill you would have paid it.
SO....invoice in bin, if the guy comes calling saying you bumped his car ask him to prove it.
No witnesses?, No police involvement?, No chance mate, Sorry!

Exactly my point, There is no need to take the whole front off just to paint the edge of a wheel arch, if you look at the pic of the car it would be like taking the door off to spray the wing.
