I'm currently using the beta of Safari 4 on my Mac, and am very impressed with it. It's really fast and has quite a few nice new features. I've never used the Windows version, so I can't comment. If I had to use Windows, I would probably be using Google Chrome or Firefox.

Firefox seems to have been getting slower of late though, and many people's installation of it has so many plug-ins and whatnot that it's rapidly approaching bloatware. I'd rather have a lean and fast browser myself.

yes firefox, though excellent and I use it 99.99% of the time, is still a resource hog and I have problems with it.

has Chrome got it's act together now then I have only ever read/heard bad things about it :confused:

Expecting in not too distant future to move to an iMac as I am sick to the back teeth of things windows/Micro$oft :D:D

Chrome seems to be very fast from what I've seen. No Mac version as yet (which the head of Google considers to be "embarrassing"), but the last I heard they were working towards a release date in the first half of 2009, so it should be here soon.

If you're still considering getting a Mac and you find Firefox a bit heavy on resources, you might be interested in Camino, a Mac-only browser from Mozilla. Safari is also a lot better on the Mac than it is on Windows.

any idea how Camono compares to Safari ?

I think some of the concerns on Chrome were to do with security but as someone has posted earlier there is Iron (i'd never heard of it - thanks for the heads up) which removes the security concerns - have just downloaded it for a play :D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
    Firefox and chrome for me

IE8 seems to have an abundance of problems for certain computers

  • Have used:

    IE6,7 and 8
    FF 2 and 3 (and 3.5 beta)
    Safari
    Opera 9
    Google Chrome

By far prefer Google Chrome as the speed way outperforms the rest. Found FF to be the slowest, very closely followed by IE. And IE keeps on crashing. Chrome very rarely crashes.

OK only been playing with it for about 90 seconds but iron, on my PC, is blisteringly fast - never seen a browser, in 10 years of being on line, that can come remotely close.

    thanks for the tip :j:j

    Iron

Never heard of it until this thread and about 10 mins ago - the speed of it on my system is leaving me open jawed - seriously lightningly quick.

Of course different configs , OS's etc might give different results for different people - but on mine - I cannot believe the speed this thing loads pages at ooooh and look it has in line spell checking too :j:j

This browser is something else :j:j:T:T
