With any blog the difference between making a few quid and not making anything is usually with the following :
(i)The type of blog you have
(ii)The kind of audience you're trying to attract
(iii)Are your visitors random or highly targeted
(iv)Competition for keyword phrases in your niche
(v)How well your keywords are ranked with Google
If you aim is to sell your own or affiliate products then, get the preparation part right by doing keyword research, write unique and informative content, get your blog content indexed quickly and enjoy better results and sales.Lao Tzu - "Give a man a fish and feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and feed him for a lifetime"

True, but it's against Google terms to use any scheme to artificially inflate your page views/clicks. Not worth getting banned for.0 -
Check out the MyBlogGuest site. Pretty much geared up for exactly this, guest post sharing and hook up. Very good, for finding guest posts or blogs to guest on, that match your niche. Definitely worth getting on board.
I already use that. Thing is, there is some garbage on there. I had someone provide a post about eCommerce solutions (which I'm interested in) but what I received was 600 words of obvious content toeing the line and saying nothing about eCommerce.
You have to really vet the quality because you can only see the first paragraph as a preview/synopsis before arranging to publish it.
I would be interested in anyone reading this who can seriously write unique content getting in touch with me.0 -
We could privately arrange to guest post on each other's (relevant) blogs. Getting free content is certainly in the spirit of money saving and the poster will receive the benefit of a backlink.
I think the main problem is we are too diverse.
My content is definitely unique but I don't see how it's relevant to anyone here.0 -

I don't really know. I've been running my blog since October and I've only had 4 comments (2 from the same person). I think you just need to be patient. If it's any help, the comments I've received are either "thank you" notes or about our shared interest in a particular thing/skill.
Tbh, thinking about it, those are the type of comments that I leave myself, when reading other people's blogs. If I particularly love something that's been mentioned or if it's something that I also do/use/like then I'm tempted to say so.0 -

I think you need to set up Google Analytics to get a better idea of where your traffic is coming from and why.
Also, you need to do some link building - whether you're writing articles for other blogs or adding your blog in a forum signature link. Because without links your website will never really rank for any search terms that bring in traffic.0 -

I do have Google Analytics installed. My traffic comes from Google and Ravelry and I am aware of the search terms. I do engage in some link building but not aggressively. I confess that I am not particularly interested in ranking as I do not (and possibly cannot) create knitting patterns to match specific keywords.
It's just a hobby of mine - tbh, at the moment, I'm slightly more interested in how many hearts (favourited patterns) I can get on Rav.My most popular pattern has 57 hearts and 2 people knitted it for real! (As in: they weren't asked to test it or were otherwise compelled.) I'm sadly thrilled by that.

quinechinoise,
I see you are using a blogspot domain. I highly recommend buying a domain from GoDaddy and pointing it to your site. You get a free email inbox with Godaddy as well so there is no need to "buy" a mailbox from them. If you need help with this let me know and I will assist.
Having a top level domain will catapult your site to a much higher status0 -
No, not GoDaddy. The CEO shoots elephants for fun.
I started-up on Hubpages a couple of years back, posted one article then forgot all about it until late last year. I now have 14 active Hubs + 3 I'm working-on prior to publishing & have seen my income climb month-on-month.
Around the same time I started on Hubpages, I also started on Squidoo. I posted 10 'lenses' on there, but when I went back a year later they had all gone. If you don't post regularly on Squidoo, the wipe all your postings.
As for a tld, I have a fully-unlimited UK-based hosting package with Wordpress installed. I use this with 'Skimlinks' & 'Adsense' but have yet to see any revenue as this is used for some really obscure blogs.Never Knowingly Understood.

AdSense is one of the main ways to make money, but I have also had some success with Amazon Affiliates, especially in the run-up to Christmas. Has anyone else used them or other affiliate schemes?0
