I signed up to t mobile 18 month contract end of September last year, and middle of Feb this year i moved house, i used t mobile street checker to see if my new address would work with t mobile, and sure enough it said 3 bars - good coverage, so i moved!!
Its now end of April and i cannot get 3 bars reception outside the house, let alone inside!
I wouldnt have moved there if street checker had said no reception, its not just my street, its probably the whole estate!!
I have emailed t mobile and they say the same thing, its down to a number of things, weather, buildings etc etc, i mean the weather has chaaged since February, then i have been told its a problem with a mast, i ask how long the problem will be there and somebody else replies there is no problem with the mast, ive tried all there daft ideas, like trying a different mobile, switching it to manual selection rather than automatic selection, im always only on 2G and not 3G...3G does not work where i live anyway!!
anyway, i emailed today asking to end the contract but they said i will be charged £357 cancellation fees...can i avoid this fine and leave t mobile after all they said i had 3 bars recption where i live, but in real life i barely get 1!!!

I think the signal checker only applies when you first take out the contract. Beyond that, it isn't T-Mobiles fault that you've moved house.0 -
As above.
Can't see why they won't charge you.
You could always try saying you wouldn't have moved if you had known their coverage was so poor, not an argument I have heard for moving or not but they may cut you some slack.
Was it not possible for you to switch you mobile phone on when you viewed the new property and see if your phone worked?
Do other providers work in that area?
Do you only use your phone at home?
If you get 2G then at least you can make and receive calls/texts0 -
I understand that thanks, but it would still be the same checker used if it was a new contract or not?? what if i already lived there then?? they said i had 3 bars reception and turns out to be none??
It was that info that helped me decide to move house, infact, its the same reception at my old house - 3 bars and there was actually 3 bars signal there.
Surely its there fault if they say i have signal there when i havent??0 -
From their website (my bold)
This map is only a guide and is not a guarantee of service availability in a particular location. It shows outdoor coverage only.
Looks like you don't have any comeback - but no harm in asking nicely0 -

Yeh other providers work in the area- o2, vodafone and 3 all have 3G access, orange has good 2G access. they try to say buildings can affect the signal but the other providers work good in the area,
I would use my phone at home if i could, i only use 2G as there is no 3G with T mobile, and even 2G is shocking, i cant use my mobile at work cuz well, im at work.
I said in an email i wouldnt have moved there if I knew it was bad, i was led to believe it was ok, so thought nothing of it, as my old address was said to have 3 bars reception and thats what i had, i had no reason not to check.0 -

Indeed they have.
Hope the reception improves.
As an aside when I am at the front of my house my 02 works well, at the back not so well, but it is the opposite for my mate who is on Orange.0 -
I don't think any mobile company can guarantee the strength of their signal in any area, and you have little comeback in that respect. As long as your phone is able to connect to their network they have met their agreement of providing a service to you, even in a low signal area. Its not what you wanted to hear, but thats how it goes, unless you can prove to them that you have completely no signal at all, then thats a different matter and they may let you out of your contract.
You could try a different phone perhaps...some phones pickup weak signals a lot better than others.
At the end of the day your phone picks up a signal, so yes, they have you by the b*lls!0 -

My contract came with a samsung u800, and ive now got a c902, but the same problem exists!!
I thought a contract was binding on both parties, they supply me with a service i can use, i pay them the agreed amount, i cant use my service at home, i have to leave the phone on the window sill in hope my fone can sniff out a signal. if they cant supply my service, surely i can leave?!?! thing is i read my t+c's, they can end my contract whenever they want however, we cant...0 -

They do not guarantee to provide a service everywhere.
When you sign up you are (meant to be) aware of this.
There are many places mobile phones do not work.
Did you not try your phone in your new location before you moved?
Do you never use your phone anywhere else - at all?0
