Writing to cancel 3 contract?

Hi everyone,
Following a tip from another kind member of the forum i'd like to ask if anyone has written to their respective mobile provider to cancel a contract.
I'll be reaching the end of the 18 months soon, and will be able to provide at least 30 days notice. However I also understand that I might have to pay a cancellation fee within the contract term? Hopefully this would cost less than quitting in the 19th month without the fee and just paying that extra month (£24).
If anyone has done this and can recommend what to include in the letter I would be eternally grateful

If you cancel in 19th month as opposed to 17th or 18th, you will get billed for the date you inform them plus 30 days.
Phone up in 17th month, tell them you do not want contract to continue beyond 18 months. Ask for an address to send letter to, also ask them to tell you what special cancellation code or reference (if any) to put in the letter.
In letter tell them not to continue contract beyond 18 months, send letter about 35 days prior to the end of the contract, recorded delivery (keep photocopy of the letter if possible).
PS - Alternative approach I have just done myself. Ring towards end of 17th month, ask for PAC code. My operator gave me the PAC code and told me that once I transfer to another operator, the contract will be ended with them. I will get billed upto 14 days more from the date of transfer.0 -
I would not recommend doing the cancellation by snail mail. This will take longer to reach the correct department and the 30 days notice will not commence until they've actioned it, which will be different to the date on your letter.
I would suggest you call 3 CS within the final month of your contract and request a PAC code. And make sure you use the PAC code within 30 day to successfully cancel the contract. Call them up 30 days before your contract expiry to avoid any cancellation charges. Other wise your cancellation charge is the remaining months line rental up to contract end date. Doesn't make sense to cancel any earlier, if you ask me, as you'll just be giving your money to 3 for nothing.0 -

Their ts + cs require a minimum 30 days notice.
That will commence from the date they receive the notice, not the date they "action it".
Customers cannot be expected to know how long it takes them to deal with correspondence.
Always send correspondence like this by recorded delivery so you have proof of the date the notice was delivered in the event of any dispute.
If you are determined to leave, then giving notice by post cuts out a great deal of frustration on the phone, and also provides you with hard copy proof the notice has been served - something you always have to trust when it's done by phone.0 -
It is of NO CONCERN of the customer how long it takes any network to process correspondence. The only obligation is to provide 30 days notice, and a WRITTEN communication is the ONLY one accepted in case of dispute - as there is no defence that you spoke with CS if their system shows no contact (a common ocurrence).
WRITE, giving the required 30 days, anf to keep things tidy, ensure that you cancel in tandem with the billing date, as this will save on split billing. This is also the time to ask for a PAC if you want to retain your number. If you donlt require a PAC, state this also.
It also does no harm to follow up with a call to CS asking if your cancellation letter has been processed. If it hasn't ask them to note on your file that this has been sent on XX/XX/XX and you expect the service to end on the required date.
Belt and braces, but peace of mind!0
