Remember the days of 28k modems was only about 12 years ago, you can get a 50meg line for less than many could have dreamed back then.
Fact is isp's have been cheaping out recently because the 1st round of the internet got good enough, the second round is coming an this time its about real time video so they can invest or lose customers.
That's the problem. The switch from dial-up to broadband used the existing infrastructure. The UK's telephone network is both crap and very very old, and needs to be updated in order to reach higher speeds.0 -
Come on BT, lets have fibre to curb! Then you wouldn't need the street boxes.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

FTTC *IS TO* the street boxes. That'st the point. Depending on how many cabinets there are around, you might need more of them to attain the speeds. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

Boradband is pretty good for me, 10Mb and I could have 50Mb if I wanted. I do liek living in a Virgin Cable area! It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
There will always be something like this just around the corner of every new technology.0

people will get sick of new formats coming out every two minutes.0

Blu-Ray is obsolete.....
It has taken x months to get the ball rolling, I am still yet to purchase this format and dont intend buying a dedicated player anytime soon. ATM its too expensive for the experience for the masses. Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help

Blu-ray's uptake is dependent on HD TV penetration, which will go some way to explain the slower adoption curve so far seen compared to DVD.
This new holographic disc technology will suffer from non-compatibility issues with existing disc based players/writers so I don't think Blu-ray is useless just yet."Who throws a shoe, honestly?"

You can get a Blu-Ray player for £140, so I don't think it's prohibitively expensive.randomtask wrote: »This new holographic disc technology will suffer from non-compatibility issues with existing disc based players/writers so I don't think Blu-ray is useless just yet.
And Blu-Ray doesn't?
If you don't have a Blu-Ray player, you ain't gonna be playing Blu-Rays anytime soon.
The holographic players will be able to play CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray, and the new holographic disks.0
