i suppose its a matter of preference , but the prices ae ridiculous for maternity clothes , and i refuse to waste money on things i will never wear again , so primark was the best option for me , i got away with most of my pre pregnancy clothes till i was around 5 1/2 months , most of my trousers are hipsters and very low rise ect so they fitted ok , unfortunatly they most deffo dont now !!!! hahahah couldnt get them on if i tried !!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know you'll never wear them again? Some of the John Lewis things I bought first time round lasted through three pregnancies, money well spent. When I got big I didn't like trousers/skirts cutting my bump so found dresses/pinafores hanging from the shoulders more comfortable.

when i was pregnant i found george at asda was really cheap i definately recommend you look there for the best deal and i also got stuff from dorothy perkins, next, m&s and mothercare (but asda cheapest!) good luck with the pregnancy! :T

totally agree with this i found that asda was great and so cheap aswell, i found that they had a good range of casual and work clothes, my only problem with them was the trousers even the long length were a bit too short for me, but being 5"10 i have to expect that
  • To extend the life of you own stuff loop hair bands around trouser buttons. Then when that doesn't work I found that whilst my bump was small I had to buy the next size up as maternity gear was too small at that stage. That didn't last too long though :rotfl: . I liked stuff from H&M (really good prices) and top shop. I bought a really nice pair of work trousers from Mamas & Papas, they were about £45 but I really got my money's worth out of them. When I was pregnant last summer those long floaty gypsy type skirts were "in". They had a really wide waist band, I bought a couple from DP's, one black and one biege, in my next size up. They sat below my bump and I didn't wear anything else during the last couple of months, they were great. I got HUGE too so anything elasticated is great.

Also remember that feet can swell up. Luckily I was able to go around in flip flops all summer but I would have been a bit cheesed off if I'd have to buy winter boots.

I've kept some of my stuff for possible future pregnancies (?!?!?) and sold some of the stuff that I didn't get too much wear out of on ebay. So I wouldn't worry about spending £40 on a pair of jeans, you could easily sell them on for £20 maybe.

    HTH and good luck :)

with ds1 i just got bigger stuff - as he was born at the end of july i lived in long dresses in bigger sizes - nice & cool. ds2 was born in november & bigger trousers were no good so had to get maternity - found some in charity shops & some stuff from ebay. just pinched hubby's jumpers!
Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!
  • I do agree larger clothes are a cheap and affordable way to have nice 'maternity' clothes.
Though I found that for me that option didn't work I'm only 5ft so my bump just expanded forwards! (my nickname was weeble)
    My suggestions would be:

    eBay
    Charity Shops
    Freecycle (ask for maternity clothes)
    Argos Additions
    H&M
Larger Clothes (if they are comfy)

    Just a few suggestions!

Completely agree. Asda definately worked out cheapest for me. I got by on 3 pairs of trousers and one maternity top and lots and lots of use of my husband's tops. I did buy an elasticated waisted skirt but once I started getting bigger it drove me nuts as it was either in my armpits having slid up over my bump or slid down under it.

I'll confess that I bought loads of maternity clothes. It may just be for a few months but I found it pretty traumatic not having a choice of things to wear, so bought things in the sale or on ebay and then kept my favourites and sold the rest on. It's a major deal to be pregnant for the first timeand I wasn't prepared to make do with a couple of pairs of trousers and a couple of OH's jumpers. I wanted pretty clothes (stamps feet :rotfl:).

So don't feel bad about spoiling yourself a little.

I'm 23 weeks pregnant with my first, and can sympathise as you're at that horrible time where you know you're getting bigger but it's not quite obvious to everyone else yet, lol!!

I'm also finding Asda to be especially good, and I have a fantastic pair of black stretchy trousers from there, but every shop fits differently. I tried the buying bigger clothes thing, but as your proportions change, this might not work for you on the bottom half (it didn't for me) and I figured that as I wasn't planning on staying bigger after I've had the baby than I was before I got pregnant, it was just as much a waste of money as buying pregnancy clothes, lol!

I'm getting to the stage now where I care more about comfort than I do about style, and you'll be there too in a few weeks - I worked on the basis that it was better to spend a few quid more but on things which you find comfortable (and trousers which don't slip down), and therefore that I would actually wear, as opposed to things that are cheap but make me itchy and slip down taking my knickers with them (oh yes, this has happened!!) Most of my things have been bought in the sale in any case, Mothercare always seems to have one on.

You don't really need that much anyway - a pair of jeans, pair of combats, two pairs of trousers or 1 trousers/ 1 skirt to last the week for work, and then a few tops and it's much easier to buy larger size tops as well as maternity tops in the sales and stuff. I'm still in my 'normal' gym clothes and pyjamas.

Again, it's one of those things where you're bombarded with pictures of size 8 women with perfect 'football' bumps, and they try to convince you that it's important to still look sexy while pregnant and therefore you need a 'whole new wardrobe'. Cue Mamas and Papas advert, of sexy pregnant woman walking up the escalator, with a black slashed-back top on that there's no way you can wear a maternity bra underneath without it showing. No self respecting pregnant woman would risk getting saggy boobs just to look sexy! Balls to that! Actually, thinking about it, haven't been near any of *those* for some time now....*cough* ;)

    Anyway, I'm digressing :)
    I :heart2: Boots
