My wife just bought larger size clothes and then got rid of them when she was finished with them, saved a fortune

  • Hi

When I was pregnant I used Argos Additions as all their clothes were reasonably priced.

I did use larger size clothes until I was 5 and a bit months but then I found they didn't fit my bump properly and cut my belly a bit.

Look on ebay as well you can get huge bundles of maternity gear for £15 plus postage!

    Good Luck

  • To be honest, that is about standard price, mothercare might be a bit cheaper, and they have become trendier over the last few years.

If you are prepared to go second hand, check out NCT nearly new sales (click on the link to find where the sales are near you)

I didn't look to see if you have a location, but this company might also be of use, they are second hand, but I personally would recommend going to one of their locations and trying on. I went to the one near Maidenhead, it is in a converted garage in the lady's home, it is a case of try on whatever they have and see if anything fits, but they still don't end up being that cheap. Be aware they also have a dreadful way of showing their items on the website, I don't think window dressing is their forte!

From my own point of view, having had on child and having bought second hand from the above two recommendations, I now plan to buy two of three brand new items for the next one and just get bored of wearing the same things all the time.

Remember you will be pregnant in the height of summer so get loose fitting items as well. Perhaps a floaty dress to wear when the going gets tough!

    Good luck

When we had our last child we bought lots of maternity clothes on ebay after the pregnancy sold them again on ebay some at a profit, most the time they have only been worn a few times or for a few months we are planning to do the same with current pregnancy.

I second the ebay comments. Also try charity shops and the ads in local papers.

Most of mine were second hand, and I just bought a couple of new pieces for best.
Here I go again on my own....

joannemc3, there's no way I could have got away with just bigger size stuff, plus it's not the right shape. My bump was just too big.

I did buy loads of tops from Prrimark, as the gypsy style around last year was ideal, but the bottoms would not have fitted.

Not all mat clothes are naff. H&M were a lifesaver for me. As was ebay. And Next.

i suppose its a matter of preference , but the prices ae ridiculous for maternity clothes , and i refuse to waste money on things i will never wear again , so primark was the best option for me , i got away with most of my pre pregnancy clothes till i was around 5 1/2 months , most of my trousers are hipsters and very low rise ect so they fitted ok , unfortunatly they most deffo dont now !!!! hahahah couldnt get them on if i tried !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree that 'next size up' probably won't work for long as the cut isn't designed for a larger belly but same size everything else! You probably won't find them comfy unless you are very petite anyway.

If you're anything like me you'll get so big that you grow out of maternity stuff by 7 months and then it's just lycra stretcy stuff all the way!

I also found under the bump stuff quite uncomfortable and I was forever pulling them up. I preferred maternity bottoms that had huge stretchy bits that cover your bump and feel safe for staying on. I agree with donna-j try H&M. They have some good basics and are quite cheap, Asda also have a maternity range and the prices are reasonable too.
