I am registered as unemployed, but was refused JSA. At the moment, the only breadwinner is my wife, who, on a good month, earns £900 after taxes. She has to pay all household bills, plus support our daughter at uni - yet she STILL manages to give me £20 a week - I consider myself lucky as there are many who have less than me.
Hi rog.Why are they refusing to give you jsa?0 -
We have £60.00 per week and that goes on food and £10.00 petrol for the week. And we are a family of 4 and a bit.. Hard sometimes but as my husband states " at least all the bills are paid and food in the cupboard ". Depresses me sometimes though. Are there others out there like that ??:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0

Based on 2004/5 tax year - which is the accounting year that HMRC rejected and petitioned for my bankruptcy over - therefore it shows on the Great and Infallable Tax Computer  as an incomplete year for contributions.

Income £1880
bills and debt @£1300
daily cash for me and son to live on- £300 = £10 per day for travel, fags, food etc
£280 left over
Now, up until the £280 left over bit it is all good as prior to MSE my debt was nearly double per month and the daily cash to live on came purely from credit cards, overdrafts and the like. but now i am looking at it i am thinking where the heck does that spare £280 go every month cos i thought i was totally MSE and not at all extravagant so i am flummoxed! back to the drawing board i think, that ones got me stumped.... i am still buying reduced stuff int he supermarket and turning lights off at the switches and all that AND selling on ebay and using quidco and doing the mystery shopping etc Where does it go??? (walks off shaking head and consults spreadsheet...0 -

I pay bf and me £400 each a month out of our joint wages and that is ours to do what the hell we want with.
He gives me all his wages and I stick all mine into the joint account. Once all ours bills are paid (and debts at the mo), there is usually about £200 left in the joint account which we are just using to bulk up our joint as we have no savings.
Out of our £400 that we give ourselves, we both seem to try and save £100 in order to buy personal gifts for each other or to buy something big for ourselves.
So I guess, including the £400 each and £200 in joint, that's £1,000 disposable together, so £500 each. Blimey, sounds a lot!
Think it's down to me being savvy and workign really hard to work out our budget (as this is on top of our £1,000 mortgage and we don't get paid mega wages!). Bf is crap, doesn't understand bills, he just likes having his £400 to blow!
I do much the same actually! I use half of my income to pay off debts and half to spend so I have (for myself) £775 to spend a month but this includes mobiles, car stuff (insurance, mot, services) and petrol.LBM: Nov 2004 Debt Apr06: £19,273.46 (Highest)

Ok, I'm going to be a little bit pedantic here and say that what you're actually talking about is discretionary income, not disposable income. Disposable income is earnings minus tax. Discretionary income is disposable income minus all 'essential' bills. :rolleyes:0

we have about £1,000 disposable left after all bills, minimum payments on debts, food, transport etc have been paid. just means that we have more to throw at our debts - but normally try and only spend bout £100 a week between the two of us.carve your name in red. the silver slipping and slicing. rose petals blossom and fall. soul steals away.0
