From one confirmed listophile to another - there's nothing wrong with you
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -

Apologies to all - I posted this on the Silver Savers thread too, not realising that I couldn't do that without breaking the rules. This was my first post and I thought it would be intersting to compare the general MSE answers with the Silver Savers one. It was closed by Edinburghlass - sorry but now I know the rules. (and there was me - so chuffed at managing to suss out how to post !!) Ah well...." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Reading the postings it's amazing how many of us have around the same amount of cash to "play" with every month. I feel we are doing well. Keep going - we'll get there." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Hi there,
I have £20 a week - which sounds loads but it goes really quickly!
Interesting to see what everyone else lives on!
scottishspendaholic xMBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
Bank of Scotland = £2,782.830 -
At the moment while on sick pay after my bill direct debits come off I have minus £332. yup thats right minus lol. My dad makes up the shortfall cos he is the bestest daddy in the world.
When I was working after my direct debits came off was left with £370ish. And I thought I was poor then! How wrong I was. At least I know that when I get back to working I won't be so silly with money anymore.
So looking forward to my first pay packet once I get back to work I'll feel like I've won the lottery!

Oh my goodness.
Just worked it out! Not including petrol, food, car bills, socialising in the 'essential bills' I have £561 per month 'disposable' .
Makes it sound like alot but it doesnt seem as though I have that much 'spare' per month.0 -

This is a really useful thread. Although I currently have a good disposable income and no debts to get out of, I've been trying to cost up life with a mortgage of 3.5x my salary. (As this is a position I'm thinking of getting into in a year or so's time.)
At the moment, even though I'm managing to put £500 a month into savings (this is because my accommodation costs are currently next to nothing) I am still living on a relatively large amount of money every month.
Reading this thread has made me realise that it should be "easy" (certainly not luxurious, but comparatively straightforward) to live on my current take-home pay even with £900 a month going out in basic living costs (mortgage, bills, insurance and London travel costs etc). I remember what a nice and comfortable life I seemed to have as a student, with approx £20 a week for food and everything else once my rent and bills were paid. Admittedly that was in York and this is London, but thanks everybody - you've made me realise that things should be manageable!

After a quick calculation i've got about 400 which sounded a lot to me. However i spend about 80-100 on petrol each month. About 100 on food (which you all will say thats too much) and i do go out a lot (nowhere near what i used to). Its made me realise that i need to find out where it all goes. Thank you.£2 saver club = £12 :j
20p saver club = £8.40 :j0
