Cascais, near Lisbon. Hoping to spend some time there too! Only reading nice things about Cascais on tripadvisor, fingers crossed!
I've not been to the mainland before, just Madeira.
Got anywhere planned Mrs silvercar?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Been to nice, non-touristy, parts of the Algarve a few times. Not been north yet.
Would love to plan something, problem is the kids have to make decisions on whether they are coming with us or doing their own thing. Kids making decisions is a nightmare.
May do a few days in whit week, somewhere in Europe with the younger one, have to see.

That's when we're going. Had to wait this long ourselves for a proper holiday because we went once with DS when he was about 14 months old and the kid didn't stop running! There was nothing to physically stop him either unless we were in the apartment; he'd have just run and run forever if we didn't stop him. We were psycologically destroyed! Put us off sunny holidays with small kids in general for a while!Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Im going to alcudia again this summer and i cant wait, okay the pound to the euro isnt great but who cares, im staying half board so have my two main meals sorted. THe beach is one of the nicest ive been to in europe and all i need to keep me going during the day is a beach or pool, a couple of bottles of water and some fruit or a decent market in the old town to walk round.
Then in the evening the spending can start and hay i only holiday once a year so who cares if it costs more than last year and at least its not unpredicatable weather england0 -

Couldn't care less about the exchange rate, I'm desperate for some sun and quite happy lying down with a glass of something nice purchased from the supermarket! It'll feel cheaper then being at home paying bills all the time.
Portugal is great. Also our genuine friendship and alliance with the Portuguese runs down the ages. The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance (or Treaty of Windsor) between England (succeeded by the United Kingdom) and Portugal is the oldest alliance in the world which is still in force. It was signed in 1373.
"It is cordially agreed that if, in time to come, one of the kings or his heir shall need the support of the other, or his help, and in order to get such assistance applies to his ally in lawful manner, the ally shall be bound to give aid and succour to the other, so far as he is able (without any deceit, fraud, or pretence) to the extent required by the danger to his ally’s realms, lands, domains, and subjects; and he shall be firmly bound by these present alliances to do this."0
