Mallorca Tourism Suffering Due To Euro

Was down at the bar last night and was chatting to the entertainment guy, he was saying how the hotel was no where near full for the summer. He went on to say that is is a very popular hotel with the english and he thinks the euro has damaged the number of english guests. Lee is english himself and has been at the hotel for over 20 years in the summer season, he has never know then resort to be so quiet. Any thoughts on this¿ sorry about the upside down question mark couldnñt find the right one on this foreign keyboard..

Why are you posting from holiday?!

Shouldn't you be lying on a beach getting drunk already?

    Wot Doozer said...

You're only allowed to check weather and currency rates and occasionally post at 2am when suffering from advanced sangria poisoning.

Hope the weather is good - sunny all week when I went mid-March. Only about half of the ('posh' bit of) Santa Ponsa was open then and was a bit early for several of the others to start worrying, although most expected trade to be down this year.

NOW OFF TO THE BEACH WITH YOU!!

I was there for a few days last week. In case anyone is still thinking of going on Holiday there DON'T!
    Prices are ridiculously high.
Stay in good old GB. Come up to Edinburgh and have some Haggis and a wee whiskey. ;-)

Posting from holiday in the morning is one thing, at that time of night is most definitely unacceptable!

    Gorgeous is fine thanks :D

I'm just back and the local expat radio station was reporting that new jobs are 75% down on this time last year, property prices have collapsed, unemployment in the Balearics is reaching crisis point. They said that a lot of hotels had decided not to open at all until later in the season. Lots of for sale signs about, and a few shops in Palma with 'liquidation' notices.

I'm sure the weak pound isn't helping, but any economy based on tourism is going to suffer at the moment. Santa Ponsa is going to be hit a lot more than Paguera which I think has a lot of German tourists. Magalluf did look extremely busy too when I went through it on the way back to the airport.

Just back from Italy and it was so expensive with the Euro rate, so people just are not going to Europe, either further afield or stay in Blighty. Or going AI if they are having a holiday at all.
Whats the weather like? It was rarther chilly in Sicily.
    Pawpurrs x ;)

Majorca's reputation suffered (or I could say its image changed) when [STRIKE]Shag[/STRIKE]Magaluf became popular.

Now that the Euro has fallen and the Eastern European countries are easier to get to and better value, Majorca will be badly hit.

Croatia and Slovenia you can stay in a youth hostel overnight cheaper than your text message home!
