How much for a cambelt change?

Thanks Psst,PM'd you back.
Just had quote from Nationwide autocentre £225 and can get it done today! I think we will go with that!! Certainly cheaper that Ford!0 -
Well first quote is from a ford garage/rapid fit.
It will cost minimum £400!!!
I'm afraid hubby not into car repairs,so this isn't something we can DIY. If we got a quote from an independant garage would it be any different then if we took it to a ford garage?
dont use nationwide or any other chain infact, find a local independant. it shouldnt be any more than £200....work permit granted!0 -
Is that how much it cost to do yours? If so at what mileage did you get the belt replaced? I think Ford recomend getting it done at 100,000 miles but I reckon that's far too long to leave it.
yip, got it done at 50k, thats 10k miles ago. i took it to a guy i know and trust, i didnt fancy doing it myself just incase. and im glad i didnt, the guy i took it too didnt realise mine was the newer type engine. ford made a type a and type b for the mk1 focus, but later models like mine got the type c with a floating crankshaft pulley so he made a bit of a mess and rattled the valves. but true to his word he removed the head replaced all the valves, head gasket, done the timing belt and wouldnt take any more than the £140 he quoted, i got a fair deal i would say. oh and all genuine ford parts were fitted,i saw the strip down and got the receipts for the parts and a bag of old bent valves!

Didnt he rotate the engine with a socket on the crank/ ignition off to check for any "conflicts" ?0 -
Goldie - as much as I love you........... think your £140 could be a little unrealistic -depending on what area you are in.
Down south prices and parts (yeah I know) are more expensive. Surely must be a 2 hour job? Plus kit and the Vodka and Tonic.
Can't remember who posted about Focus being 100k - they all vary, which I know sounds ridiculous, but they do. Depends which model you have as to when belt is due. If I had 100k one - I would have it done before 60k anyway.Genie

Cheers, will get my local ford indie to do it..probably get it done somewhere between 50k-60k...are there any tell tale signs that the belt is on its way out? Also do you know if the cambelt parts come together in one kit? Will prob order parts myself as I can get a discount off ford parts."He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

he had done them a million times before he said and all the marks all lined up. complacency set in i suppose. but he always remembers it, and he seems angry with himself every time its mentioned. :rotfl:...work permit granted!0 -

or 5 years, remember it isnt just about mileage. the belts under constant strain.
ford say 100,000 or 10 years. even haynes suggest this, but i would always be cautious about a timing belt ( and even some modern chains!)...work permit granted!0 -

haynes suggest 100,000 for all the petrol focus engine, and so does the generic handbook that comes with the car.
ive given my price as a rough guide and suggested no more than £200.no more than £70 for a belt kit for a belt kit and say 2 hours labour (varies, but not £65 per hour, mad if you pay more than that at an indie.)
stop being so pedantic jeanie:mad: see you've got me angry now....work permit granted!0
