OS Daily Thread - Sunday 26th April

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Sunday 26th April. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning. Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS friends!
to Teresita
Sybil - Evil cat is very welcome - Treacle has eaten so much fish she cannot face any more! I have tadpoles in a bowl on my table and she does occasionally dip her nose in the water, but she is bored with them now I think.
Essex - How's the ironing pile?
sistercas - Would love another token please - I love Wallace and Gromit and my OH won't buy Kingsmill as he loves home made. And I agree, Diversity were the best thing on the show, very talented.
Redruby - Mmmmm asparagus
Halight - thinking of you
Nic1 - Still in my thoughts and prayers
Thought I would show my coffee cup seedlings! My OH is on strict orders to bring more home on Monday for the next bath of seedlings to pot up. I am so impatient, I should never grow from seed as I get really annoyed waiting for them to pop up out of the soil!
Looking forward to the Marathon today, I always enjoy watching it. My friend has run it for the last 5 yrs, I don't know how she does it, I get exhausted drinking tea and watching!
I need to get out into the garden today if the weather permits to plant the rhubarb crown and almost dead asparagus that someone passed on to us. Was supposed to be raining all weekend but yesterday was lovely and sunny if a tad windy.
Not sure what to have for Sunday lunch - logic says fish pie but I really fancy some beef. We have blown our budget for this month anyway, a joint isn't going to make all that much difference. I will have to work on the OH, there are some half price beef joints out there I think if I can just remember which supermarket was advertising them.
Enjoy a peaceful Sunday and warm gentle
for anyone who wants one.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.

Sommerfields.
Morning.
Still a bit wet down this way. I guess it was very wet down west. We spent the day there, but did not see any flooding.
Although there looks to be 1 dead and 2 missing from a car washed away
and a 10m flood defence scheme left everyone flooded Sort of funny the Enviroment agency saying it did work when loads of people had water in their houses and shops??? What lies.
Church this morning and then a little shopping for the week. Don't like shopping on a Sunday, but need to get some packed lunch stuff as spent the whole day out in the PZ area not in shops. Great waves and wind srufing going on.
Church this afternoon too as an old church we went to is closing and this is the final service. But they will reopen once they have demolished and rebuilt as the old place was falling down.
Need to get my tomato plants potted on today and fancy a nice roast for tea. Just have to find the cheap one somewhere.
Off to get the paper.... cheersNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
morning MSD /N9eav
MSD I will pop the token in the post as soon as we have finished the bread.
your seedings look wonderful well done , lovely colourful pots too
N9eav thats awful news, cant believe the flooding, we have not had rain up in yorkshire for ages
well the cat has woken me up scratching at the bedroom door. I was really annoyed but now I am here at the best time of the day , laptop on knee, cup of tea in one hand and the sun shining- bliss
I love watching the marathon too, I could never imagine running 26 miles, but I admire all who do,( I struggle running for a bus lol) good luck to MSE Neil
have to take DD1 to her gym club and I need to go to MrT but I will go this afternoon when I have picked up DD1
(((((((hugs)))))) to all who need Nic / Penpin ((hugs)) to you
I hope you all have a lovely day0 -
Morning all,
Diva, your seedlings look great! Haribo gave me a great tip the other day about using polystyrene in the bottom of pots rather than stones or broken crockery for plants that don't have deep roots. Would the coffee cups work for that if they were upside down? It makes the pots so much easier to move.
It's been wet here overnight but it's brightening up now so I'm hoping for another day in the garden. Ds2 is doing a reading in church this morning then we're off to see Dad and stepmum. After that the boys have a St Georges day parade with the scouts. Dd has a friend staying over but they got home very late so goodness knows what time they'll be up. I got some kidneys for breakfast but dd doesn't like them so it won't matter if she misses them. Dinner will be a barbeque (weather permitting) at dd's request as she goes back to uni tomorrow morning so I'm trying to spoil her a bit.
Off to refill my coffee cup. Have a good day everyone.

Morning all,
Beautiful day here again today :T, unfortunatly we are off out, as I have something to do for work all day, but never mind.
Going to do chicken legs, new pots and salad for tea, nice and quick when we get in.
I love watching the marathon, so will have to watch the highlights tonight, good luck to mse Neil :T
Diva your seedlings look great what a good idea, I have two more tokens to send you, we are still eating the second loaf, but will send them on when finished.
My tom plants are going mad, I have them in the conservatory at the moment, and they love the heat, and the chilli plants are doing well too.
Ok better get dd up and breakfast on the go, toasted ham and cheese sandwiches I think.
Have good days all xx0 -
Hi all:j
Looks a nice day again, sunny already.:D
Having roast lamb today which will be delish. Hoping to get out and sort some more seedlings.
DS back this morning so the chaos begins again;)
Neav looked at those links and its not good news is it....the flood defences have obviously not worked:rolleyes:not sure where they are up to with ours in yorkshire after the awful floods here a couple of years ago, luckily we are on a big hill;)
MSD made your apple cake yesterday....gorgeous:D
WS I think LB is growing up and there isn`t much you can do:rolleyes:. you need to alter the routine I think and start earlier bed times instead of the daytime naps.....it is hard as you feel you never get a minute to yourself but it is something that happens to all children. Infact DS didnt have daytime naps at all really, ever:rolleyes:but has always gone to bed at 7....he just gets up early(very early as you all know). Maybe you need a different nighttime routine for LB which won`t fit in with DHs late evenings.....you will have to do some jigging about with routines and see wht works for you all:D
pink hope DD gets back to uni ok...it must be tough on you when she goes, I don`t know how I would cope:o, spoil her as much as poss today:D
well off for the rest of my coffee then get moving
ps Halight hope you are ok mate if you are reading0 -
Morning all
Looks a lovely day out there in Kent. Towels to put out so they should dry nicely. Get my ironing out of the way early this morning and then the day is mine. Roast lamb for dinner - my favourite.
I love watching the marathon too. My mum lived on the route and I used to stay over with her when my 2 DS were small and we would go outside and cheer all the runners on. She lived on the 9th floor of a tower block so we would then go up and watch the stragglers go by from the balcony.
Bought some freesia bulbs the other week to put in pots outside back door, am permanently on guard duty as I have found they are VERY susceptible to greenfly, spraying and getting rid of the eggs every day now the shoots have come through. They are not looking very healthy because of them either. So am getting a bit paranoid about looking after them
Hope you all have a good day xxxx0 -
Good Morning
Lovely and sunny day in Essex hope it stays that way.
MSD - unfortunately the ironing pile is still quite huge as spent most of the day making coffee & snacks for the workers. Garden looks good although DS let the cat out by accident and she walked the full length of the concrete  why do cats do that
Anyway today will be a day of a bit of this and that, will try and watch some of the marathon, one of our lorries delivered the medals yesterday - we do it each year. Am looking out for Hypno from DFW, it always makes me feel so lazy and unfit though
Have half shoulder of lamb in the slow cooker for tonight and will have fry up for brunch. Need to carefully walk and put the seedlings out and will try if I have time to pop up to a local lazy bones bootsale, they only have about 10 stalls but you never know if you might find a bargain.
Have a lovely Sunday.

Morning all. It's lovely and sunny here so will be bunging as much on the line to dry as possible. Downside is all the ironing that then needs to be done
Enjoying watching all my seedlings growing although the smell from the chicken manure on my veggie patch is a tiny bit offputting.
Not sure what to cook for tea - might do chicken just for a change LOL! My H made his own cod fishcakes last night with breadcrumbs and they were lovely. Everytime he buys something from the supermarket ready made (not very often I try and restrict when he goes;) ) I tell him how we could have made it ourselves. He's taking it on board because he wanted to make these himself!!!
Must try and get some housework done but would rather go and play in the garden with the kids.
Enjoy the sunshine as the weather report for tomorrow looked direI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks
