  • Our allotment suffers from this, to the point where the police now ask us to log each theft from a plot as a separate one, so that they can show trends/stats more accurately, rather than just one theft from an allotment site. It's generally known who does it, but almost impossible to catch/prove. They never take tools, just fruit and veg at the end of the growing season. They seem to think it's free (possibly it is where they come from), but it's galling when you see the effort some people put in to have their plots almost emptied overnight.
  • I have been to aldi today and got a cctv camera for £20 so hoping that will deter (or catch) any future visits!

thanks for all the sympathy folks!

So sorry to hear about your plants.

This doesn't help at all I know but a neighbour stopped me yesterday and told me that someone had stolen her 2 cockerels and some hens. I couldn't get it out of my mind all day.
She knocked on our door last night and said that her little boy had swapped them with a friend for a bike . She now has them back safely but it did make me smile.

  • sorry to hear about the loss of your plants and hard work. Definitely try freecycle. My son and I had our bikes stolen from the back garden last year. I put a wanted on freecycle and got a bike offered to me and I was very grateful. You feel really angry don't you. That someone just thinks they can come and help themselves.
I cable tie my hanging baskets to the hook outside the front door. It wont stop anyone with cutters but does deter casual drunks I think.

They have been back - last night - they got in another way - you know the strawberries I salvaged...? ...all gone.

So, I spent an afternoon potting plants up for them to steal.

Handfuls of other seedlings torn out of their pots and ruined.

I am very disheartened now, and cannot see the point in growing any more if I am just doing it for someone to steal.

wish their was some way of tampering with the seeds so that they give them the runs when they eat the fruit or better still turn them blue like the girl in the chocolate factory. The little (insert word of choice)
