How blardy annoying, especially considering you've saved up to buy your plants and the time you and your Dad have spent on them. I'd check Freecycle too, and Aldi, Netto and B & M Stores have some good bargains on the fruit tree front. We bought a load of veg seeds from Netto a few weeks ago at 19p per packet!:hello:

Aw...:(
Can't really say much but if you do live down south, I'd be there with my spare plants.0 -
I'm really sorry to hear whats happened. People are totally disgusting, greedy and inconsiderate sometimes :mad:Even if you stumble, you're still moving forward.0

Poor FC. It is more than the seeds and plants isn't it, that is stolen - its is your expectations and effort made that has also been lost.
I can imagine that confidence in using the greenhouse to start again has taken a bashing, and I hope you feel able to pick yourself up and recover your equilibrium. I am sorry for your dad too, as he must be upset
Did other neighbours lose plants or was only your father's green house targetted. To remove so many plants I would imagine they must have had easy access/a vehicle - is it possible to inhibit access?
Have you reported this to the police?
Garden theft is insidious. Some time ago, I heard of someone who had an ancient stone bench stolen from her front garden - the bench had been there 'forever' and they just noticed one day it was missing - the thieves must have brought a lifting device to remove it, but no-one saw when it went.
It is nigh on impossible to keep everything under lock and key, and live an open and normal life. You have my heartfelt sympathy and I truly hope the thieves do not profit from their actions - I really believe "what goes around, comes around" - although it may take time.

Foreign Correspondent - how awful for you :grouphug:
I know how you feel as we frequently have garden thefts and our local allotment has been raided for the last year or so on a weekly basis sometimes they take metal sometimes they strip allotments of food and sometimes they just ruin it all. It is very upsetting - they even stole all the pumpkins last year so the local infants and other children in my area couldnt have pumpkins for halloween.
I hope you manage to replace the items and plants that have been taken at minimal cost to you0 -
What makes me really angry about this is that whoever stole the stuff probably doesn't know how to grow them. But, as another person has said they might be going to sell them. A friend who lives in a small terraced house with a little garden at the front heard a noise one night and saw from her bedroom window a drunken couple. The woman was telling the man which of my friend's flowering tubs and hanging baskets she wanted. Anyway, she told the police and then followed them in her car and they were arrested.
If you repeat your post on other active gardening sites you may find that other people are happy to send you things.0 -
...<cough> taps screen.....
personally I wouldnt be regarding my property as gone forever....I would be out to see if I could get it back.....
I still think theres a good chance your stolen property is heading for a carboot sale. People have gone round hunting for their stolen property before now -I certainly recall someone seeing their stolen jewellery in a jewellers shop - and they managed to get it back.
Thieves have lower-level intelligence in my experience. Over the years I've had a few things stolen and reacted by thinking "It probably IS the most obvious culprit and they probably WILL either hang onto it personally or sell it at the nearest convenient place. That would be incredibly stupid - but then thieves at this level ARE often not very 'bright' "
You'd think it would be a really "daft" thing to do to try and sell their illgotten gains at the NEAREST carboot sale - but dont put it past them - they might well BE that daft:D. In which case - if you are QUITE QUITE sure that the stuff in front of you is definitely yours - then pick it all up (as if you were going to buy it) - but dont pay for it. Of course they'll argue - but they might just shut up pretty darn fast if you tell them exactly where they got it from:D - ie they've been caught out..
I havent had to do EXACTLY that to recover stolen property of mine before now - but I have quite calmly informed the culprit that I knew and made sure I got my property back -they tend to think its the lesser of two evils - rather than having the police set onto them.:D0 -

.
That rather proves my point
-ie thieves are often pretty stupid people. 0 -
I am truly gutted for you. I do hope that you have told the police and got a crime reference number. If they are not being planted in somebody's allotment they are quite possibly being sold at a car boot sale. Having on two previous occasions had allotments from which crops were stolen I know what a kick in the face this must have been for all your efforts. Could you put a notice up on your front gate. "All my veggie seedlings have been STOLEN. If you have any spare xxxxxx you do not need, I would gratefully accept them." Some kind hearted fellow gardener might be able to help you out. I do hope so.0
