Moblle phone unlock? Dont use BMC media!
Options
I used BMC Media websites to unlock 2 mobile phones I have. Despite advising it was possible & me giving them all my details, eg tel nos. IMEI codes & place & dates purchased, they failed on both to supply inlatch codes or refund my money.
BMC Media use paypal. I thus thought my transaction was safe. but the money taken out, £6.66 in total, of my bank account never even showed on my paypal account. Paypal only seem to give automated responses to complaints. I'm worried this company BMC can use the details I gave for criminal purposes - they obviously are not reputable (they refuse to answer my emails) Any thoughts?
My advise is if you want your phone unlocked (& need to pay), go to the highstreet phone shop!

I have just used them too and no response apart from an automated mail. Since purchasing this unlocking code, I not that have some pretty bad press online.
I will endeavour to reclaim my money via Paypal, but I am convinced that this will take ages.
BMC Dont touch them with someone elses !!!!0 -
As a follow up to my thread posted yesterday, I got a refund from BMC Media via my Paypal account. I think that it may have had something to do with threatening to seek legal action and that I would draw upon the distant selling regulation to do so.
Purchasing these codes maybe actually cheap if the buyer actually gets the code, but to take peoples money and then not produce the goods is outragious and a shameful scam!!0 -
I also fell in the same trap through another of their many websites unlock-city.co.uk and it is basically the same story.
I have already sent a number of emails with no results, and am now determined to report the episode to the police tomorrow, together with their affliliated companies Dynamic Marketing Limited and Dynamic Selling Limited with address at 145 - 157 St John St, London EC1V 4PY and registered number 04282410.
Paypal is an appalling service. I read around that a number of people reported this scammer and yet they still operate. I reported the abuse in any case but my feelignis that they protect illegal business and pocket transaction fees in the face of the victims of these scams.0 -

I also ordered a code for my motorola em330 21 July via paypal from unlock-city.co.uk - no response. I guess I'm stuffed! Alan0 -
In my opinion, nearly all the phone unlocking companies are to some extent scamming their customers.
There is free software available to generate codes for older phones such as Nokias and these companies use this software if it supports your model and charge you accordingly.
If the software does not work for your model because it is a new model, (and most people will want a new model unlocking) they just stall you saying they are working on it and will contact you again once they have the code.
In actual fact, they will never have the code and are banking on you giving up and going elsewhere and not pursuing them further.
Probably about half of the people who order from them and don't get a code will pursue the matter far enough to get a refund so the company makes 50% of it's income as pure profit!
The easiest way to get your phone unlocked is to contact the network whose system it's locked to, for example Vodafone will unlock a PAYG handset for free after a year and charge £19.99 if it's less.
If you have paid for a code and not received it, raise a dispute with PayPal or your credit card company as eventually PayPal or the card merchant will prevent them from trading.0 -
Hi all
I paid for the service via paypal on the 19th of August.
Ben at Unlock City Said I would get a refund within 7 days from (21st August) as they could not unlock my mobile. Its been 12 days now and have just sent another email to them.
Hope to get reply soon.
Wished I checked online about company first......I usually do, but not this time.

PS. If you go through the paypal dispute there is a message from the seller regarding refunds before you actually go through the dispute, so have just emailed them. craig@dynamicmarketinguk.co.uk0 -
Hi again
Just got a refund through paypal and back onto my card, Showing on paypal as refunded just not showing on online bank statements yet. But that can take a while.

P.S 04 Sept 09........Now in my bank account.
P.P.S They did not reply to my emails regarding overdue refunds, you just have to be proactive in your quest for a refund. I was going to dispute the payment through paypal but they have a message on there telling you to email them before going through to the dispute as it could take 18 days otherwise.
So emailed them at the address they gave me and got a refund within an hour.0 -
I started a mobile phone unlocking process through Unlock-city on Wednesday. At 10:25am, I paid £3.44 inc vat to BMC media via PayPal. I supplied the phone make, model, network it is locked to and the IMEI number. I was emailed saying saying a member of the team was calculating the unlock code which could take up to 24hrs (!?). At 10.16am the next day I received what I thought was the code. WRONG. Email from 'Ben' saying that he will be manually be calculating the unlock code as the system was not able to do it automatically. It will take another 24hours and I had to supply the IMEI number etc.
I would not use this service again. Would have been better going into local shop and paying the bit extra money to get my new phone unlocked there and then.0 -

If you want me to, I'll go round to their offices on my dinner hour and throw a brick, or failing that an old Motorola phone through their window.I work juts around the corner in Old Street.

Guys, just reading these two threads and realised that these people are also involved in another scam as Apple Specialist and / or apple-labs.com ripping people off for Iphones.
