Financially its usually better to stay home, but if you haven't been away for a while sometimes a holiday is nessisary for good mental health.

Mum has ofsted this week, so I'm busy doing all her usual things around the house. So far NIM is being loads of help and dad a little, but the two lads are utterly useless and I want to clout their heads together! They threw a strop because I asked them to fill the dishwasher and its 'not our job'. No, well, I don't think its contributing much for it to take 2 18 year olds to empty a dishwasher and that to be all the housework they do in a day, when they're home all day! I go to work, make the packed lunches, come back, make dinner, hang the washing, put the washing on, clean the bathrooms and NIM hoovers, irons etc, so in the grand shceme of things filling the dishwasher really isn't such a onerous task!

I am seriously wanting our own house again now though. Or at least the two lads to be out of this one!

Your baked goods sound nice Cinny, if you decide to make anything else can I put in a vote for something lemon? Bars, muffins, cake, something, just its a really really popular flavour especially in summer.

Spoilt my dad too, made him this huge thick banana cheesecake which was yummy, very light and could almost be argued to be healthy (lol) and gave him his pressies and card, although because mum was at work with ofsted my brother is giving his next Sunday when shes home.

Wendz if you aren't bothered if it sells then are you sure its the house for you? It's a huge commitment and I would have thought you really need to be in love with a place to buy it, you've lived without owning for this long, maybe give it a few more weeks to see more of what is around, and find something that really wows you?

I do really wnat the house but there is no way that we can make an offer for a couple of weeks as need my Dad to look at it and also we need Daryls new contract to apply for mortgage. I just don't want to get my hopes up and then for someone else to get it so would rather just try and be laid back about it.

Are the boys going to uni in September Dinah? I'm sure you'll feel better about living at home once they're gone and not moaning about loading the dishwasher etc!
OH has the HA rep coming around today to see him as one of our new neighbours has dug a hole in the grass and filled it with concrete so they can put up a rotary washing line! How stupid are these people??? OH was on the phone to them yesterday as soon as he realised what was happening; the hanging baskets annoyed us, the table and chairs left out annoyed us more, the washing line has tipped us over the edge! What worries me is that the HA said that these people had been 'specially selected', lord knows what the people they rejected are like!

?!?! What a nightmare - hope the HA can (and will) do something about it! Er, and also, why not just stick the washing line into the grass? Or is that a stupid question...

Oh dear the joys of communal living are all around us today! I agree with Wendz, must really feel like they're taking over, and if you're ground floor it's affecting more than others.

Those boys DO want their heads smashing together! It's not as if you're asking them to physically DO the washing up, jaysus! Hope your mum's ofsted goes ok! She'll deserve a cake of her own by the end of the week I think!

It does feel like they're taking over! What's annoying is that we had to read and sign a lease saying that we couldn't have washing lines etc on the communal grass, and to not alter the outside walls as we don't own them. The first thing these people do is drill holes into the wall for hanging baskets and put in washing lines! Grrr, we have to move!

Chirst, Birdie, You really need to get out of there! Fingers crossed for your OHs meeting with the HA.

Dinah - Your brothers really do need their heads knocking together! Filling the dish washer takes all of 5 minutes, no time at all if they're both doing it. Really nice of you to do the housework for you Mum though, I guess I'm lucky that all the family pulls together if Mum can't do the housework one day.

Tete - Just looked up Santa Eulalia and it looks so pretty! Mind if I hide in your suitcase when you go? Me and OH have decided on one 7day sunny holiday for next year, and seeing how we only have 2 (most likely sunless) weekend breaks this year I'm already looking forward to it. 'Only' 3 years till we go too Florida

Yep, going to uni in September, but the one that isn't my brother moves out in 2 weeks, so maybe brother will get a bit better?!

Well while looking for a voucher in the drawers in the living room I found a letter for my parents offering them the oppertunity to condolidate the arrears on their mortgage back into the mortgage and pay them off over the term. Also when dad and NIM went for a drink yesterday dad told NIM that basically they're counting on either getting much, much better paid jobs, or inheritance from mums parents (both still alive and kicking!) to ever be able to retire as the mortgage is still over £200k, and they're both turning 50 next year! And yet they're still not pushing my brother into getting a job with a 'get a job or you won't be able to afford uni' attitude - he's 18, they can't protect him from the big wide world forever!!!

That would be driving me mental too Birdie, as anyone who comes to view will see that its a council area, as no private block would allow these things. Did you get any further trying to sell to the LHA? Sorry if you're in a flat you accept there are two major downfalls - no private outside space for the kids to play/socalise and nowhere to hang your washing!

Dinah, I think your parents might need to join the queue for head knocking! They need to 'encourage' your brother to get a job now, and to work whilst he's at uni, there's no way they can sub him whilst he's there. That's the downfall of being the younger child, your parents learn the mistakes from the first child (i.e. helping you through uni) and can't afford to do it again. My parents paid all of my brothers uni fees because they didn't want him to get a loan and he dropped out after his 2nd year leaving them with a massive bill and an unhappy bank manager! I knew that there was no way I'd get the same treatment!</p>We're still waiting to hear from the LHA about them buying the flat, you can always count on the council to move quickly... not! I hope OH remembers to ask how they're getting along with it, apparently there are a lot of 'calculations' to be done before they can give us a yes or no.
