  • So because we have gone to war a voucher system is justified. If we hadn't gone to war it wouldn't be justified.

In this thread: people angry about the amount of money being given away on benefits, suggest ways of increasing the amount of money spent administering the system.

yep. thats about it, but while I really don't think it would work I have found some of the opposing arguments interesting.
  • Yes - but with good intentions i hope. I don't think such a system would work. Does any country operate such a system effectively?

I remember very clearly that a mum complains that J.oliver's cooking materials are 'too expensive'. However, she was smoking and having loads of beers in the fridge. Child Benefit or tax credit should only be used on children not their parents. Vouchers could be a better way.

My Mum, who is an excellent cook, a budgeter par excellence and doesn't smoke or drink and lives on a very small pension also thinks J Oliver's cooking materials are too expensive.

Her reasoning is that many of his recipes either have a lot of ingredients in (say seven vegetables for one salad), which her budget wouldn't allow to have all fresh and in stock at the same time, or that they contain deli items which are a bit more expensive than she can afford, or she would have to travel to get.

why dont we all return to the dark ages, and capital punishment for those out of work:mad:.

Have you gone mad, i think so.

My children are always my top priority, if some one has to go without then its me not them so i can give them the little extra things.

If some people are putting themselves before there children giving them vouchers will make no difference at all. I can tell you what they will do, flog um to the highest bidder for cash for half of there worth.

I may not be employed but i budget well and manage (just), why should my abilitiy to choose how i spend that be taken away from me. If you give it to me in vouchers how do you propose i find the money to let my daughter go on her trip to france with the school no handouts there but i find the money some how.
  • Ok, I will probably get shot for this, but I was under the impression that benefits are intended to be used for essential living costs, ie food/heating/water/clothing....I dont think trips to France is really what its for.
Both me and my partner pay tax, but at present trips to France for the kids are way down on the list...
Surely those kind of "perks" in life come hand-in-hand with employment and not benefits, harsh- but how life is.

Totally pointless as people would trade them for cash.

I'd be happy to buy these vouchers at a 10% discount.
  • You selling yourself short apparently some people buy £10 vouchers for £11 and £12 on ebay.

Why not have a debit card type thing, but which records, like a Tesco club-card, what the card is used for. Those that use the card "inappropriately", can be "re-educated" about how to use the money correctly.
"Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.
