Totally agree. Vouchers should be handed out in place of taxpayers hard cash. There should be a stigma attached to leeching from the state. Far too many have simply chosen benefits as a lifestyle choice, it is far too easy.

    Well said and I agree.

But, they'd probably sell their vouchers on ebay for a lower face value sadly?

Why should unemployable people have the choice how/if they get any benefits paid, after all, they haven't earned them. They are plain lazy.

Send them on cooking classes, paid out of their benefits, and teach them what to do with fresh produce, because I doubt they can be arsed peeling spuds when KFC, McDonalds and Burger King do it for them, at the tax payers expense.

The other point PN raised in the pst is the huge cost of implementing such a scheme.
I agree with you in theory, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be negatively affected because of a minority. No matter what the cause of their inability to budget.

But thats a little harsh, not unlike suggesting workers should not have to pay tax for benefits because of other people's inability to provide for themselves. We should either succeed or fail, with no back up?

I Agree that there should be some sort of voucher given out instead of cash, maybe there should be a variety of vouchers for different bills, for example some of the benefits could go to energy payments etc.

I agree with DonaldTramp that there should be a stigma about living off benefits.

Those who put themselves first, buying booze and fags rather than a decent meal, will simply sell the vouchers for cash. ANother problem, is the implementing of such a policy
    1) It will be expensive, employing a great number of people to distribute the vouchers, etc.
    2) Like most other policies, there will prob be a number of loop holes ie selling them for cash.
In other countries around the world, benefits are not so widely available, we are simply living in sponge Britain, where the only way to make money out of the country is to scrounge.
All course i am referring to those benefit cheats who claim excess benefits rather than get a job. I guess a small minority as such has tarnished everyone elses reputation!

I'll be sure to tell my BIL, who worked 12 hour shifts at the same factory for the last 25 years, that because he was made redundant last month that he's now plain lazy.

Oh and my best friends sons and husbands, who have all lost their jobs in the last 6 months that they are all also plain lazy.

After all they are all currently in receipt of benefits

I dont want to get into other subject matter, we're talking about the idea of vouchers and my replies are based solely on that topic.

We're not talking a definitive all or nothing situation here...it's a situation that involves a variable such as personal choice.

If we all get x amount child benefit and I choose to spend mine on food and Mrs X spends hers on booze then my situation should not have to change purely because she made a poor choice.

I agree she may need help or advice but that help or advice should be of a direct type for her. Not a type that means negative change for others.

Let's say I want to buy some fags, but have no cash. I have a £20 food voucher to feed the kids though... I have a great idea! Why not sell this voucher to one of my neighbours for £15 cash, buy myself a pack of fags and a bottle of cider, and feed the kids chicken nuggets and beans for their tea this week?

edit - hmm, there seems to be an echo in here... didn't refresh page before posting :o

In reality, I think thats exctly what would happen. But we are also told its a small minority of claimants.

I'm confused about the argument of suffering through a change like this (although I personally think the idea as it stands is not supportable) legitimate spend claimants wouldn't suffer because their spending pattern would change, just their method of paying for it.

I was referring to the 1000's who have NEVER worked and never intend to.

The ones you see pushing buggies around wearing baseball caps, with a staffy at their side.

The one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet is DRUGS, that's where their money goes, it's not all fags and booze you know.

Read my whole post, don't just select one sentence and attack me. ;)
