Hi I I had it done in the states and it didn't work. Tried Whitestrips (cost about £35 on ebay ) and they were brilliant. Takes a little longer, same as the trays but a fraction of the cost and you can stop when you get to the shade you're happy with

Seems a lot of people are happy with Crest Whitestripes. Wondering exactly which ones you use are there seems to be so many on ebay e.g. classic, premium, premium plus, multicare etc etc.

I'm ready to be proved wrong but I would be very surprised if Crest Whitestripes worked very well at all.

    1. The active ingredient is peroxide - it doesn't say exactly which type - but for it to be a legal sale in this country, the concentration must be so low as to make the product virtually useless.

    2. They look like almost dry plastic strips. How can they carry much of the active ingredient, the peroxide? How can that compare to a tray overflowing with gel? It can't!

    3. The plastic strips will only make contact with the front surface of the teeth. What about the curves, edges and bits which a flat surface will not make contact with? A gel tray will deal with those.

    4. If the plastic strips somehow stick to the teeth, then they must have some kind of glue mixed in with the peroxide. This further dilutes the amount of peroxide which is available.

Crest Whitestrips AREN'T legal in this country George, because they do have too much peroxide in them.

Very much of the rest of your post is also very well obseved.

Funnily enough, I found a review of several American over-the-counter whitening products on a web site the other day. (I won't post a link, as the other products reviewed would be illegal in this country too).

BUT - Crest Whitestrips, in several different presentations and names, all came bottom, and were generally classed as 'complete rubbish'.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I tried all the cheap tooth whitening products which never worked.
I paid £900 for professional laser whitening in London which worked but for only a few months. Then i found out i had peridontal disease and should never had had it done. The dentist went ahead knowing something i didn't which was very bad.

It was indeed - but with a dentist doing that, you can take action against him/her.

More protection than from something off t'interweb, or a beautician doing it.

Just wanted to say had a good read and thanks for all the info posted by Mr Tooth Smith, after reading I have decided to go to my dentist and have the more expencive treatment done in the hope it will last longer than the zoom and may give better results. When I called zoom she did mention that it may not work on all people and results may vary....hmm....My Local dentist is wonderfull, and the only reason I thought of using zoom, as it was half the price but after waying up the pros and cons will vist my dentist now and pay the extra to be sure of a professional job... Thanks Tooth smith.. x

You wont find anything that actually whitens your teeth in a supermarket. Dont waste your money, the most they will do is remove superficial staining which could also be removed by attending your dentist for some cleaning. There is already a thread on this board about professional teeth whitening if youre interested.
