They are not licensed in this country.

That means you either have to buy them abroad or through the internet.

If something as bland as Sensodyne toothpaste can be faked (And there was a huge problem with a poisonous batch imported from China very recently) then it's a fair bet that Crest Whitestrips will also have fake versions out there. And if the product is not licensed in this country, then there is no safe reliable source.

I cannot recommend that anybody has anything to do with them.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what prices I should be paying for both laser whitening and the home kit service from a dentist?

I have been phoning around and the cheapest I can find is 495 and 275 respectively. Thats plus a 35 consultation fee.

Also, before I go for a consultation fee....I grind/clench my teeth at night, would I still be suitable for whitening with the trays?

    Thanks

    Those prices are pretty good.

You'd be paying much more at city centre 'cosmetic' practices. Best value-for-money would probably be found at smaller town high street/suburb practices.

As to whether the tooth grinding would make a difference or not - that's part of what the consultation is about. It depends how bad it is, and how much it's wearing the teeth.

Might not be a bad idea to get that seen to or stabalised first if it is causing a lot of wear.

Not much point having pearly white gnashers if they'll be worn away to nothing in a few years!

If you don't have a regular dentist, I would suggest getting one, and getting into the habit of going regularly before you think about anything cosmetic.

I have had my teeth whitened without using Peroxide by the white teeth company and they look fantastic.

Very professional and happy with the result...www.whiteteethcompany.co.uk

As you started this thread spurs you're now just repeating yourself.

As Toothsmith has explained fully, this company are practicing illegally and have been reported to the GDC. Maybe it's a good idea to stop recommending them?

A friend of mine is going abroad to Spain next month. He said he might look in to getting his teeth bleached when over there. I might join him. Has anyone done this abroad? Is it safe and is it a lot cheaper? Last of all how do we go about it? Do we just show up?

Tooth whitening is pretty low-risk if done properly, and you're properly assessed beforehand.

It doesn't work on white fillings, it doesn't work on anything 'false' like crowns bridges or veneers.

It's not much use if your teeth are stained or covered in plaque (it will bleach the staining, but not get rid of it, so it will change colour bck again very quickly).

It can be harmful if you have cavities.

So - so long as your teeth are healthy and clean, and a proper dentist checks you over first, it shouldn't do much harm.

The most successful, long lasting treatments are the ones that involve trays and gel, and are done over several weeks. The '1 hour' treatments are good at instant 'Wow' but fade more quickly.

Whether the longer one would be appropriate for a 'holiday' though, where it can't be supervised for the full treatment would be a matter for the dentist doing it though.

As to cheaper, I'm not sure. I wouldn't really expect Spain to be that much cheaper than a price you could get in the UK if you shopped around a bit.

It would be a fair bit cheaper than the price you'd get if you rang up a city centre 'cosmetic' practice in this country, but you can get it done much cheaper than that out in the sticks a bit. £200-£350 would be an average price in this country.

I cant see how it would work if done propertly because it would involve follow up visits to see how you are progressing.

I had mine done earlier in the year for a cost of £300.00. I doubt with your cost of travel and accommodation it would be any cheaper
