There are a few threads on here about Groupon whitening 'deals'.

If you search groupon whitenng - you'll find them

    One is here www.forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=2993004

Remember that if it isn't a dentist doing it, or at least checking you and passing you over to a hygienist - then it's an illegal service.

There is no such thing as a 'whitening technican', or a 'whitening specialist' which beauty salon whiteners often call themselves. Generally this just means 'I've stumped up £1000 for the kit and did a whole days training course.'
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

Am going to have whitening, but two questions that dentists may be able to answer..
If I have in chair whitening followed by tray does this sometimes give a better end result than just tray? I know that obviously just tray is slower but that isnt important to me - I also know that you lose some of the chair whitening in the first couple of days after the treatment. I also wonder if there is much difference in end price by the time you have paid for the extra bleach at about £12 a pop that you need over and above what you get as part of basic pack.

I would say that power whitening followed by trays just gives a quicker result, rather than 'better'.

There are different views on this though.

I've always preferred the slower approach.

Most dentists will provide all the solutions you need to achieve the final result as part of the price. You only buy extra syringes when you need to top up, normally once a year.

brook2jack would you agree with Toothsmith that the end result would be the same?

Everyones teeth have an "endpoint" beyond which they won't get any whiter no matter what system you use. However different systems can be more likely to cause sensitivity getting to this end point, which is why like toothsmith I like slow and steady.
The research would not seem to indicate any system will get teeth whiter than any other.

thank you both. That is very useful. Its sensitivity I am nervous of but dentist thought that wouldnt be a problem with tray - there is just one tooth I have a problem with generally and he mentioned some gel or other that could go in tray.
My dentist uses Zoom for chair and tray. I have heard claims that Enlighten is best for sensitivity but I dont know if that just apples to chair or to trays as well. There are a few well thought of dentists in this area so would use any of them happily its just a case of knowing as much as possible before I decide. Thanks.

Money lover- if your not looking to whiten quickly, go with a home whitening (tray based) only and forget about the in surgery whitening. I know your main concern is sensitivity, and as such would recommend you stay away from the powerful bleaching agents used for the insurgency stage!

Like brook and toothsmith, I too prefer using low concentrations in trays so gently whiten the teeth, it may take 3-4 weeks or longer if your teeth are particularly discoloured but at least you need not worry about severe sensitivity.
