I have tried all the above, even turned off the encryption on the router. Still nothing wirelessly but the laptop will connect when the ethernet cable is plugged in.
My guess would be that you have MAC filtering turn on in your router, which is stopping anything wirelessly connecting unless you have added it to the list of approved wireless devices.0 -

No it is turned off. I have also spent some time changing the channels on the router. Still wont connect even though the bars are full on the airport and it says airport is connected to the internet. Try to connect only to be told i am not! I am slowly losing the will to live lol!!!!0 -
Does your network show name up when you click the airport icon in the menu bar?0

Your problem isn't with your Mac, unless it's faulty, in which case you should contact the people who gave it to you.
To connect to a wireless network on a Mac, you enter your network name and password, and it connects. That's it. It couldn't be any simpler.

I've done that and it accepts my password but will not still connect to the internet.0

What security is your router using?0
-
128 bit WEP. I have even tried with the encryption off but still nothing works.0
-
Why WEP? It's not very secure and can be cracked in seconds by anyone who has taken the time to type "WEP crack" into Google.
But regardless, let's try and eliminate things. Turn WEP off, make sure MAC filtering isn't turned on, enable SSID broadcast, save your changes before you exit your router set up page, and then turn your router off for 30 seconds and reboot your Mac.
Once they have both restarted, click the AirPort icon. Does your network show up? What happens when you click it?0
