Yeah just think a little further ahead if planning to book any tickets etc pretty similar to the UK train/travel problems at peaktimes best buy tickets the week before to avoid standing in queues and missing your flight/train etc.
Have a look at Eurostar as well they regularly have discounts.

I've been checking out airberlin & hlx and looked into booking from june onwards. although we just have to wait and see what they have in store for him, so far we know for sure he's got a week long course in czeh rep after he gets theres.
I would also try and go midweek and don't mind random times lol
  • have you looked at indulgence flights - not actually sure if they still do them to germany but worth thinking about

If you live close to South Cerney/RAF Lynham/RAF Brize Norton it may be okay from my experience it was always to difficult to travel from Cambridge to Brize wait around for a whole day on one of your very precious leave day to fly to RAF Gutuzloh(sorry forgotten how to spell it)and then try and get to RAF Bruggen or Hamel. The civil system is more expensive but if you rely on the forces system to get you anywhere and they fail to deliver you in good time it is you that gets the fine or extra duties.
You could always keep it in reserve especially if OH only has a few days at Brize on a stop over or similar.

I don't think you would get indulgence flight as you're not married. My husband and I did a 2 year RAF tour in Germany and it was fab. You should really consider moving with him. I know you wouldn't get a quarter as you're not married but the life over there is fab. We were on a very small camp but I've heard from friends that Bruggen was also fab. You can get cheaper flights booking through forces travel. Your partner should also get a forces discount book which lists every company that will give you a discount. If you want any help with anything just let me know.

Hi - hope you don't mind as this is right off thread. Spotted it as my 16/17 year old daughter is thinking of joining the RAF next year or the year after. If she makes it she wants to go into medicine but would probably try for officer entry anyway. She joined cadets and just loved the team work and got the taste for it. Sadly the toll of A levels has meant she had to stop going and has lost touch. Would anyone possibly be willing to chat to her and let her know what its REALLY like if I sent a PM? Would help a lot with her agonising!! :A

Sorry can't help you directly as I was in the Army but lucky enough to live and work on the RAF bases in Germany.
The RAF is the way to go .Personally I loved every minute of the Army but the RAF is far more civilised and mixed society where as the Army is basically female free area .
The food and the social side is far better and your are treated far more nicely than the other services.
As a wake up call though,a medical career would almost certainly mean a posting to the middle East or a Italian airbase in support of the casualties the forces are getting.
