Personally I think the diary is best for me as if I write down for all internet to see that I want to pay £200 off in the next month for example, every time I think I can't do it, I think but I have to as I can't have everyone thinking less of me.

That might sound daft but it spurs me on. So many times through the last month I have just wanted to give the money making a rest and spend but I know it wont get me where I want to be, so somehow I have done it.
I think it's nice to look back and read how I did it as well, as that also inspires me.

I don't think it works for everyone, but I like to think that we all get something out of each other's diarys and use ideas and tips etc which help us all out for our individual goals.

Crapwithcash sent me over her spreadsheet template which I tweaked to suit my family and that has helped me no end.

The mortgage free diaries really inspire me and I keep reading them regardless that I am no where near in a position to do that yet, but it doesn't stop me seeing how people are doing it and working out figures for the future etc.

If you decide to get a diary, then let me know as I'll be there reading it.

Thanks for your kind words though, you always pick me back up when I'm feeling a bit demotivational.

Totally know what you mean about it spurring you on, im the same. If everybody knows what you plan to do then you kinda have to follow through !

    Well done !

    Awwhh, thanks yukkibear.
I go on the mortgage free board too as we are hugely overpaying our mortgage to try and pay it off early.
I am seriously thinking about starting a diary after my hols once I know the damage to the cc but until then I will just continue noseying in on yours! Keep up the good work.
God,this site is so addictive though!
    Take care

Hi Claire good to see you :)

Primula, when are you off on holiday and where are you going? I would love a holiday but can't afford it this year.

I am already thinking what to do when these debts are gone. Do I overpay the mortgage, or just keep filling isa's every year, not sure yet. I know I want to get the wedding saved for and get some good savings behind us, but then I'm not sure.
Anyhow that's a while off yet, but was playing with some figures yesterday and I could see the benefits of overpaying.

Off to work again today, and the rest of the weekend.

What a shame you having to work the weekend, but I know you have a young family so it perhaps suits you?

Going to York on holiday, well a nice smallish hotel outside York, well it looks lovely on the internet so hope we not disappointed. We will have six nights away, maybe seven if we tag an extra on, and really looking forward to it. It's been a long time since we have had a proper holiday and this time it's just me and OH as "kiddies" have flown the nest! Well one has, the other is at uni so is home for hols. We weren't going to have a holiday as it's an expensive business DD away from home at uni and we are hoping to help her through so she can come out loan free, but phew it is an expensive business, first year over though and no student loan so so far so good on that front. I really wish now that I had saved all my family allowance for both my kids and that would have been a tidy sum now. But, hindsight's a wonderful thing and I guess I actually really needed that money when they were young. Anyway my mum gave us £250 to get a couple of nights away and we decided just to go for it and have a proper holiday so we have saved £750 ourselves to add to the £250 so the cc will get some damage but not as bad as it could be! LOL
Sorry, I am rambling on again!
Re the mortgage, I love overpaying ours and I would say, if you can afford to, then go for it, even if it is just a tenner a month, but also it's good to save too so I know where you are coming from there!
Anyway, enough ramblings from me, I am at work :eek::eek: Better get off the internet before I get caught! LOL
Have a lovely weekend, even though you working. I planning packing to be ultra organised for next weekend!

That sounds like a nice break Primula. It does suit child care arrangements me working weekends, so saves a bit of money there.
I wish I could save the child benefit but it does go into the monthly budget unfortunately.
That's very inspiring tho that you have gotten your daughter through a year without a student loan, well done. I would love our mortgage to be gone in 13 years and then we would have loads to chuck at dd2 if she goes to uni, but I think that's a dream at the mo, we'll see.

As for the wedding, we were hoping for March 2010, but as we were about to book something the car went kaput and hence the loan appeared, so it's been put back a bit. I can't concetrate on everything at the same time I'm learning that now lol. I do have a bit saved for the wedding though so I'll either use it to clear the loan when I get to that figure or keep it as a start for the wedding, not sure yet.

Well I had a really crud weekend at work, everything that could go wrong did, and I could have walked out at one point, but obviously know I can't do that.
    It's over now.

I got a bottle of wine last night against my better judgement but I just wanted something nice, and I felt it this morning which serves me right.

I am making chickpea enchiladas for tea tonight and I'm not going to tell them there's no meat in them and see what they think.
I bought some really expensive oil to make a curry as reccomended by a indian website, but my curry turned out tasting worse than my usual one I make so I wont be buying that again!

I'm praying that my cheque turns up tomorrow so I can pay it in against the loan and be under £2k, but if not I'll have to pay it myself and pay myself back when it arrives.

I've sold a few bits on ebay over the weekend but nothing worth anything, so it's back to the thinking board for money making ideas I think.
Not going to stress myelf out over it in July though, think I went through enough in June lol and we have too many birthdays in July.

I spent £25 in Sainsburys this morning but I got loads of nappies and wipes, and a birthday pressie for my OH's old friend, was only a fiver and looks half decent as it was on sale so that's good. That'll come out of July's budget now though by the time the bank catches up unless they're super quick.

We've spend much more than we brought in in June and that's a scary thing to see when it's written down in a spreadsheet. I have to do something to curb it and get the finances back on an even keel. I do think my perseverence to pay the loan off may have had something to do with it but not sure.

I've decided to play a game with my bank account in July. Every Friday I'm going to "sweep" the amount to the nearest £10 (ie if there is 13.60 then I'll take 3.60) and shove it to debts or savings, not sure where yet, maybe they'll all get a bit and then the xmas and car fund will have a start.

Hope the cheque arrives so you can be under the 2000 pound mark.

That is a good idea about rounding the banking account every Friday and adding it to debts or savings. Always nice to be paying something even if it is a small amount.
