It's truly excellent
I believe the Release Candidate is due in May which will essentially be the 'almost finished' version and free to use for a period of probably 6 months or so until the final version is released.0 -

Since Vista and 7 aren't too dissimilar, if the software program doesn't work under Vista then there's a good chance it won't under 7.0 -

I remember when Vista was in beta, everyone going on about how great it was.
There's still ample time for Microsoft to screw it all up.0 -
I had the same dilemma with my new laptop. ( a Dell xps 1340)
After doing much investigating on the dell forums and finding out that although my machine would run xp it would have potential issues with certain drivers including the hdmi output. I decided to do several things.
Strip off all the pre installed features and programs. this meant a clean install of Vista and then installing the drivers one by one.
Then I found a great link on tweaking vista
cant show the link but do a google for vista tweaks
this makes the machine faster and more like xp.
I tried all these with a view that if i still didnt like it i would then down grade to xp (even if meant a slower machine)
2 months on and i am happy with vista.
There are programs that wont work with vista
we had a version of nero that didnt work, our power DVD didnt work and spyware doctor dodnt work.
All had to be upgraded.
hope this helps0 -

7 is what vista shouldve been, it will be what companies will gradually phase over to unless they opt for server 08
Lots of companies aren't moving to Vista because (a) they don't regard it as a very compelling upgrade, and (b) they don't want to have to deal with any hardware/software incompatibilities.
Windows 7 doesn't really negate either of those two things, and I would be very surprised if we saw a mass exodus of companies leaving XP (or Windows 2000 or whatever they're using) for Windows 7.
Microsoft really shot itself in the foot with Vista (so much so that they can't drop the Vista brand fast enough), and made a lot of people both distrustful of them, and upgrade-shy.0 -
Windows 7 does in my experience negate the requirement for serious hardware upgrades.
And I'd suggest that not a lot of *proper* organisations will be sticking on an unsupported OS like XP for too long.0 -
