Are they serious? Just looked on the Splott site & they said that sellers should arrive at 6am!! Do people really get in that early?? Getting up that early would kill me for a week! Has anyone done the Splott one? Did they make money - posts above seem quite negative from a seller point of view! Dont want to give my stuff away, I'm a DFW!!

Hiya, forgive ignorance, what's a DFW?

I sold at Sully a couple of weeks ago. We were there from about 8.30am till almost 1pm.

There was a nice, friendly atmosphere with good weather and lots of people looking but not many buying.

I priced my stuff really cheap so it would go, but I still took under £30 and had to bring most of it home again.

It took me ages to sort out & some of my clothes got dirty marks on them. I suppose it depends how much you need the money and how good you are at pricing/selling but for me I'm not sure I'd bother again for a while.

Any advice on what sells well?

It seems that kids toys sell, so do books. I sold cacti, also an old half used bottle of Chanel 5 perfume.

Any advice on what doesn't sell?

For example, in hindsight I don't think there was any point in me taking ladies' suits on a hot day.

    Good luck to others.

    Hi all,
Just to update...did my car boot at splott yesterday & have the following observations which may be of help! We got there 7.15 & people has already set up but we still got space...although guy instructing people was a prat & still drunk from the night before so unable to give any kind of sensible instruction! CD's, jewellry, electrical stuff & nik naks went well & I made 102 (after costs) which wasnt bad for a morning getting rid of junk! Will do another one in august & may do splott again - people di jump on you but waited when we asked them to give us 2 minutes to at least get out of the car; some people want something for nothing & I actually enjoyed the haggling - usually just met in the middle unles I didnt like them !! All in all was good & a much easier, more fun & cheaper way than ebay to get rid of junk!

Wow, well done, Fishface, that's impressive!

I'll have to try Splott again some time - were buyers there at 7.15am too?
  • Can anyone tell me of any car boot sales closer to Cwmbran or Newport please, I don't mind travelling, but if I could find a good one closer to these areas that would be great
