Until WW1 passports didn't exist, so no immigration controls then
Funny how we all want strawberries in the summer for a quid a punnet, yet it is beneath too many to pick them for £5.50/hr, hence they are picked by East Europeans now (never used to be like that)
Below a picture postcardy view of an 'english' village
Yes it is in England, but it was built with immigrant money in the 14th Century
finally Dervish, in wanting to rid these shores of immigrants, do you include the largest immigrant group that have been here in numbers for centuries (long before the EU) ---- the Irish?
Perhaps I should jump into the sea, I am decended from french immigrants, but I dont work here, I work for a swiss company and suck 1000's of francs out of their economy each month and repatriate it here for a UK govt to fritter away
thanks for an interesting and thought provoking post. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
They'd be the same people (Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims) who raised the largest volunteer army the world has ever seen (1.5 million), put themselves in harm's way and fought on the same side as your Grandfather to help defend a country they'd never seen which had held them as empire subjects for the previous 150 years? What does your Grandfather have to say about the 1.5 million Indians who fought on our side in WWII?
) died during ww1 .. A sacrifice to be recognised ..
British Casualties In North Africa were 53k In ww2, In the pacific they were 88k, I guess that gives "us" the right to colonise "them" using your logic ??
I cannot right the Wrongs of Empire, all i will say is the wholesale colonisation of one country by another is wrong, I disagree with it, In the same way the indigenous Peoples of say Aus are Aborigines, I am indigenous to these Isalands, .If I were Born in Pakistan that would make me a pakistani I presume ??.. or if it were Nigeria i would be Nigerian ?? In short we do not agree0 -
If I were Born in Pakistan that would make me a pakistani I presume ??.. :
not necessarily. my mum was born in india but has british nationality. as an anglo-indian she had to choose one or the other. her brothers had to give up indian nationality to become british even though they came to the uk as adults and are brown skinned with strong indian accents. they have since been refused "person of indian origin" cards. all the politics of an ex british colony. tbh neither the british or the indians really wanted the anglo-indians after independence.
like i say, nationality is a made up rule subject to change. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

I offer these extracts as part of the "debate" ... to add to my earlier post about demographics.
Social unrest arising from the economic conditions worldwide looks certain to be a major factor in the years to come.************************
In 1990, Japan — facing a growing industrial labor shortage — started issuing thousands of special work visas to descendants of these emigrants. An estimated 366,000 Brazilians and Peruvians now live in Japan.
The guest workers quickly became the largest group of foreign blue-collar workers in an otherwise immigration-averse country, filling the so-called three-K jobs (kitsui, kitanai, kiken — hard, dirty and dangerous).
But the nation’s manufacturing sector has slumped as demand for Japanese goods evaporated, pushing unemployment to a three-year high of 4.4 percent. Japan’s exports plunged 45.6 percent in March from a year earlier, and industrial production is at its lowest level in 25 years.
***********************
Rita Yamaoka, a mother of three who immigrated from Brazil, recently lost her factory job here. Now, Japan has made her an offer she might not be able to refuse.
Sergio Yamaoka, left, and his wife, Rita, came to Hamamatsu from Brazil with their three children three years ago, at the height of the export boom. But in recent months, the Yamaokas both lost their auto factory jobs.
The government will pay thousands of dollars to fly Mrs. Yamaoka; her husband, who is a Brazilian citizen of Japanese descent; and their family back to Brazil. But in exchange, Mrs. Yamaoka and her husband must agree never to seek to work in Japan again.*********************
It could also hurt Japan in the long run. The aging country faces an impending labor shortage. The population has been falling since 2005, and its working-age population could fall by a third by 2050. Though manufacturers have been laying off workers, sectors like farming and care for the elderly still face shortages.
But Mr. Kawasaki said the economic slump was a good opportunity to overhaul Japan’s immigration policy as a whole.
“We should stop letting unskilled laborers into Japan. We should make sure that even the three-K jobs are paid well, and that they are filled by Japanese,” he said. “I do not think that Japan should ever become a multiethnic society.”**********************

Thanks for that. I also read about this elsewhere. It's a disgrace.:oTurn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.0 -
1. ILLEGAL immigrants do not pay taxes - it is impossible.
2 Legal immigrants (the minority of immigrants) then proceed to take their net income out of the country which is very bad for the UK.
seem you like to slap the small fish who earns any money and want either to buy a car here or probably help family back where it comes from.... but think- its a well earned money after hard work and it s my decision what i do with it..
why dont you go and slag thousands of british who went and bought houses in spain, france and anywhere the sun shines a bit more than here..
buying a house its not 6000 quid drained from the uk.... its 100.000+0 -
