Helllllllp!!!
I took my car to the garage the other day because it was spluttering on when it was at a stand still. The garage has told me my Cam chain has over stretched and that it is a common problem on the new micras. Mine is a 1.2 s 03 reg.
Heres the good bit!! He wants to charge me £800 to fix it he says the kit alone is £700 he has advised me to part ex it instead of fixing it. But this isnt an option cos I cant afford that either.
Does anyone have any help or advise. I dont want to get a second hand engine incase i have the same problem plus you dont know the history of it.

its probably right, chain kits are expensive, was this a main dealer or local independant?...work permit granted!0

It was a local garage. He is pretty trustworthy so thought that would be right but wondered if I could get it any cheaper?0

my friend has exactly the same problem, she has decided to fix hers as the car they offered to part exchange for was not as good. 800 pounds was the price they quoted i think that was a main dealer in crawley (nissan), hers is 2003 too0

Nissan parts are expensive.
The following were replaced on my X-Trail under warranty, but would have cost the figures shown at a Nissan dealer otherwise:
Intercooler: £1947
Fuel Pump: approx £2000British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Yeah I now no that haha I wish I knew before I bought the car haha The mot is due next month 20

And i thought cam chains were the new panacea? How could they stretch significantly? I've just threaded a new cambelt n tensioner on my old Golf. The bits cost me £22 in total and i guess itll be good for at least another 45k miles.0

Well my car has only done bout 41000 and its 6 yr old.
The mechanic told me he's seen them go on micras with only 13000 on them.
He knew what the fault was as soon as i mentioned the word Micra !!0 -

A full parts kit to replace the chain on these Skoda engines is about £40 though.0 -

VW parts are not that expensive and personally, I would have got a kit from them. But its your car.Genie
