Applying for a Visa for the US??

I'm looking into moving to the US to be with my partner.

I'm pretty confused about the easiest way to go about this. We were considering getting a Visitors Visa to begin with, but it's starting to look like it would be easier just to go for the full blown Citizenship Application.

Please help clear up my confusion? I'm in the UK.

  • Emigrating to the US aint easy you can't just decide you fancy it and go which is what your post suggests by the look of it.

    Have a look here http://www.emigrationexpert.co.uk/EmigratingToTheUSAViaBusinessVisa.html

    This may help

I know it's a hell of a lot more complicated than just signing a piece of paper, nipping on a plane and going out to live there.

I've read all that stuff, various sites etc etc and it's still exceedingly complicated. I just need someone to tell me everything in basic steps? If poss.

    Thanks.

  • Ok are you engaged to an American?
Do you have a child who is already an American citizen?
Does your employer want you to go to America to work for them?
Do you have a lot of money to invest in a US business?

If you can't answer yes to 1 of those questions im lead to believe you have next to no chance of being allowed to emigrate to the states

Well that's bull. (And I'm still asking about the 6 month visitors visa, aswell as citizenship).

    Let's say the first one.

  • Have a look here at http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/index.html theres plenty there on immigration itself.

Normally visitors are for 90 days and you can do that via the visa waiver programme.

If that is "bull", why are you asking?

I also thought that it was very difficult to emigrate to the US just because you "want to"

If you know different could you please let me know as I to would be interested.

It's not bull because you don't get the answer you want. And if you enter the US as a visitor with the intent of finding a job then you are in breach of your entry conditions which could affect any future attempt to enter the US.

In order to be able to live legally in the US you need to find someone who is willing to employ you and willing to jump through so many hoops they'll feel like a circus act in order to prove that no-one in high unemployment America can do your job. THEN you can start applying for a visa.

So unless you are some really special you have zero chance of being giving a working visa to the US.

Your circumstances make you ineligible for a visitor visa (let alone the visa waiver) - you will not be a tourist and thus cannot enter the US as one.

You will have to do it properly.
